i like the general idea.. but you're gonna get abuse here for trading Leon for Seaby

i personally think this is a good year to trade leon...his trade value would be inflated given he made AA... but i think we could do with someone more consistent who is not an AA

well really it would be to get that high draft pick not so much seaby.

I'd love him, but the Crows would want a fair bit.

We'd be better off looking at Jon Griffen at the Crows imo. Has potential, but has fallen out of favour.

We should be looking at players who could be good for us, but are out of favour or at rock bottom prices, rather than players who have just played their best season and are at their highest in terms of value imo.

I've heard the words "Jonathon Griffin" and "pea heart" thrown around in tandem a number of times, and he's also been known to get a bit 'lost' on the field and look a bit unco (comparisons to a baby giraffe have been made), and doesn't do enough around the ground. He's actually over a year older (14 months to be exact) than Cam Wood as well, and isn't even that influential a player at SANFL level, so he's a fair way behind in terms of development. He's also bit on the skinny side as well (probably needs to add a good 10kg to his frame), so with all that in mind, he might not be what we're wanting.

On the other hand, Ivan Maric is often praised for his aggression and heart (probably his best attributes, in fact, but he can ruck a bit too :D), and has a big strong body, which are things we'd definitely want in an incoming ruck :thumbsu:

So hypothetically if you were trying to get Kruezer to Collingwood who would you trade?
Thought the thread was realistic trades??

Why would Carlton offload a number 1 pick who is already showing good signs??

NO CHANCE

I reckon we should have a crack at Ivan Maric. You don't hear about him much but he's only 23 and from what I've seen he has some good potential. He is also ranked third in the hitouts-to-advatage in the league.

Thoughts?
That is better, now you are looking at more realistic targets.

Personally I dont know enough about him, but we need a solid big bodied ruckman, not another skinny mobile one!!

Just a thought. Leon and our first pick to West Coast for their first pick and Mark Seaby. We get a ruckman (even though i think he's useless)and that top pick we are apparently looking for and West Coast get the crumbing forward they are looking for and still have a top 15 draft pick. Just a thought so please don't abuse me :)
Tis perfect time to trade Leon, his value is at an all time high.....doubtful he will get any better than this year, and we have plenty of other options for a small forward, Dick, Didak, Sidebottom, Thomas would be able to cover him.

Use Leon to get a solid ruck and we change the dimension of the team, and perhaps can take the next step and push harder for a flag!

Of course!

Why didn't I think of this.

Trade away a proven gun player for a hack who can no longer play regular senior footy just because he fits a position on the field, yet is no better than the ruckman we already have in Fraser and Wood. This of course, is offset by the fact we upgrade a few picks in the draft.

Genius.

to be honest it isnt that terrible.

Leon fails when it matters most and his trade value will never be as high as it is right now being a All Australian.
Fraser is a lost cause, his knees are gone and Wood isnt ready yet. Seaby isnt getting a game cause they have Cox and Natanui is their future.
Seaby is a decent ruckman who i believe would flourish getting a lot of game time and he can go fwd and kick goals.
We also upgrade high into the draft and possibly grab John Butcher with Pick 7 who could be the star fwd we are after.

I doubt this would happen, the club will prob not trade a AA player but its not a bad trade if it was made.

Leon may fail when it matters most, however Seaby has failed period. Is no longer AFL standard material.

Josh is not a lost cause. Wood may not be ready but I would be prepared to let him ruck a season alone than play Seaby.

Also, Cox missed almost the entire season. Seaby had his chance to cement a spot but couldn't. He is damaged goods.

Also pick 7 will not net John Butcher. He will be long gone by then.

Certain top 5 prospect.

That would be the sticking point. Butcher is not likely to fall that far in the draft. It would be a big gamble expecting him to still be there. Alot would depend on who else would be available at that pick. I think its the right line of thinking though - and alot more realistic than alot of the stuff flosting around.

I wouldnt say Seaby is no longer AFL standard. There were issues behind the scenes and this had a bit to do with why he wasnt getting a game. I have watched Seaby play live quite a few times and i was impressed with the way he hits the packs and his ruck work.
Fraser's knee issues are only going to get worse i fear, hopefully not but even still he isnt a real ruckman and gets beaten in the taps too much. His asset is obviously covering the ground and being another rover really.
Butcher could drop, never say never. Daniel Rich wasnt expected to drop to 7 either and look what happened.

Like i said, im sure this deal wont be done but i have a feeling Seaby maybe a Magpie somehow.

I am not sure why there are so many people desperate to get second rate ruckmen to the club. We have dug our hole with Wood and he now has to step up as the #1 ruckman. Fraser can back him up for the next 2 years until someone like Lachlan Keefe can step up. We don't need to waste picks & resources on second rate ruckman anymore.

These are my thoughts only so go easy.

Now, IMO too much rubbish being posted in regards to trading useless footballers in our list and picking up quality. Won't happen and especially with a late 1st round pick. The difference between picks 1-7 and picks 12 and up are astronomical i think. It's a pick and hope pick.

Anyway, To me the only players on our list which shouldnt be put up for trade are

  1. Pendlebury
  2. Swan
  3. Beams
  4. Maxwell
  5. Obrien
  6. McCarthy
  7. Sidebottom
  8. Wood
  9. Reid
  10. Presti
  11. Shaw
  12. Thomas
So in other words i'm happy to float guys like Didak/Davis/Medhurst/Fraser/Anthony/Johnson/Cloke around if we are going to secure the services of someone of quality.

Someone of quality is not Seaby either. If it means securing hypothetically a Jolly/Sandi/Burgoyne/MClean/Kerr/Davey??? I would be interested.

The main thing is that we have to be willing to part with quality to gain quality in areas we lack.

It's ridiculous to think that we could trade a guy like Corrie who was basically given to us for nothing and expect something for him this year when he has shown nothing.

If guys like Cook and Stanley can't get a run in our team we wont get anything for them. And TBH, i would be suprised if they even got a run at the demons.

It depends on what you class as a second rate ruckman??

Look at St.Kilda, they picked up King and Gardiner for peanuts, both were thought to be finished.......yet they are a big reason why the saints have improved this year.

The dogs picked up Hudson and he is now there number 1 ruck!

There is way too much emphasis on youth with the Ruck position, it is the one position where body size and strenght is the most important thing, and the young kids can be worked over. Getting a seasoned, hardened ruckman who is craving an opportunity would be ideal for the Woods.

Even if Wood continues to improve the ruck is still one of our weaknesses, so for fecks sake keep trying to improve it!!

Getting in light weight kids who are 4-5 years away from having a body ready to play ruck in the afl is not the answer.......get a guy who can play for a few years now ie get three years out of a mature ruck.

We have an abundance of flashy skilled HF flanker/midfield types, and also a large collection of really good HBF types.

Surely a guy like Leon could actually get us a something good, or Goldsack may get us an improvement, sure both players are quality......but can we use them to make the TEAM better structually?? I think we can!

These are my thoughts only so go easy.

Agree with most of that N.Thunder, we need to keep the nucleus of the team that is under 22 together, so I would add Anthony and T.Cloke to the list of untouchables......Anthony kicked more goals than Kosi this year, you dont trade away KP forwards who do that in there first year, if Anthony can kick 50 goals a year we are doing well!!

Cloke has had massive off-field issues this year, only he knows how his confindence was shaken up by the bashing and shootings...he is one of the best KP blokes going around....give him time he will be fine.

Didak, biased as he is IMO our best player.

But if we want to get somebody to improve the team, we will have to give up a bloke who is in our top 20 or so! No point dreaming that clubs will take any of our duds and give up quality in return!

I don't see Nath Brown on anyone's list of untouchables, probably bar one or two that I missed.

Surprising, seeing as he's basically our sole big bodied defensive prospect, let alone one that is in our best 22 at 20/21.

Don't agree with Anthony but the rest is spot on. Anthony is our best KPF prospect so I don't think we should get rid of him - especially as we have no replacement.

Agree with this. I think Nathan Brown is a good prospect forward or back and is close to untouchable.

Yer maybe i havnt really seen enough of seaby but he didnt look that bad in the two grand finals he played in.

Thats not the problem with that trade. No way would WC consider downgrading their first rounder for Wellingham - let alone adding Seaby on top of that.

Hey Guys, Just new to Bigfooty.
I was just on the Carlton board and read about Carlton having a board meeting over Fevola next week. Let's just say there's a possibility they put him up for trade. I think if we offered Cloke and Pick 14 we could get him, as it would give them a young CHF which they need and another first round pick. Getting Fev to Collingwood would make us a genuine threat and give us a 70+ goal kicker for atleast another 2 years. It would also help the development of Dawes and Anthony. What do you guys think?

Daniel Harris will be a pie next year. All but agreed to. Should add a handy clearence player to our team.

I think Fev would be a good option for us but

a) I really can't see Calton parting with him with the intentions that they are challenging for a premiership in the next couple of years, judging by their agressive recruiting and

b) if Fev does get traded from Carlton, i would expect him to go west, maybe in a deal to secure Tarrant/Kennedy.

I hate Fev but i can't knock his ability to kick goals. If we were to take him i would hope that a strict attitude adjustment would be put in place as we have a young list and i would hate for him to mislead or be a bad influence on these guys. Could derail the whole club.

Regarding Nathan Brown, i think he's a great talent judging by 2008 however i'm not sure what really happened this year so i didnt have him as untouchable.

Jack Anthony i would class as untouchable if Cloke regains solid form or we secure the services of another good KPP. If Anthony is going to be getting the No.1/2 defender all year it could be trouble. He does struggle with close attention and needs to work harder. Hopefully that may just be an experience/maturity thing. He does have enormous potential both as a player and as a trade.

Really, where did you hear this?

What is he 27 now

Some stats http://superstats.heraldsun.com.au/profile/210014.html

Hardly worth picking up IMO due to his poor disposal efficiency, we have enough guys who need to improve their disposal so why recruit another senior player with poor efficiency?

Will be p#@sd off if we get him....
