Toast Reasons for Optimism

Given it’s the optimism thread, I’d say Reid is the obvious and it’s a really big positive.

Often times you draft kids that are honestly stragglers and you pump games into them hoping that one day they’ll eventually turn good.

But in the tier above that you have guys like Murphy Reid who clearly have class and footy nous from day dot and we’ve got him. Hopefully he can find a WA partner and settle in for the long haul. What a weapon to add.

Huge positive. If he can lock in on the fitness and professionalism side of things (nothing to indicate he isn't) we have a very good player here. He should get a good run in the team now. Big win!

I had before the season started and still do have freo top 8 pushing for top 4.

All teams are going to ebb and flow and experience beltings including whoever is the eventual premier.

You guys have a good defensive gameplan when it’s on song, very strong midfield and some good quality forwards I expect to improve in amiss inclusion of Bolton as well.

Very solid defense with Pearce who is elite same with j Clark.

Wouldn’t read too much into todays stinker.

I agree that we should be pushing for the top four. The cats away is a brutal start to the season. I think we will respond well next week.

The concern is that lessons that should have been learnt weren't... at least in this game. One of those being selection and another being roles players are playing once selected. All fixable.. I hope!

Think you need to see a few more games to determine if lessons have been learnt. You guys moved the ball very well in that third quarter. Showed a real intent for speed on the ball. I wouldn’t say longmire is wanting to play a slow lethargic style after seeing that which a lot of freo fans have hinted he wants.

My tip is fourth, without too much concern from todays game.

I think that’s easier said than done as an outsider tho because I don’t have the emotions attached like you do

1) It’s only round 1.
2) Johnson was reasonable yesterday.
3) One of JOM’s better games for the club.
4) Reid’s 10min was spectacular.
5) For all of the hate Reidy gets he kind of met my expectation of him. I don’t disagree with trying Voss but Reidy was never going to win us the game.

I doubt it

Richmond had a reallt poor start to the season a few years ago, then got some players back and won the flag.

We beat Brisbane in round 1 last year..then they kept losing.

Maybe having such a bad start will put a rocket under some of them.

I would hope the response will be massive... We should win a few on the trot from here. I haven't given up on 4-2. The percentage will be the tough one. We need a massive win or two and to have a few games that we hold the opposition to 50 ish points.
