Cripps and Byrne give me a lot of hope for the future, now we just have to get rid of the passengers, and Gibbs is certainly one of them, time to make the hard decisions.

How dare Malthouse announce to the world that he has concerns over his assistant coaches and believes that free agents wont come to Carlton - how dare he state this stuff publicly? He can go and go fast - the faster the better and all players devoted to his selfishisms - can go with him.

Concerns for the uncontracted assistant coaches wasn't it?

Banding Carlton into the FA 2 tier comp that he's regularly stated - we're not top 4 & that's where the majority of FA's are moving to for success (and seemingly successful organisations).

Cripps and Docherty for starters.

Who know's if we'd bite to a Menzel offer considering the talk he might leave. Same with Henderson... in fact in the paper it was said Geelong lead the race just ahead of Brisbane for him?

Saw that , sort of mixed responses on our board. Yes good player , but he we have other more immediate needs and I suspect the cost would be substantial.
If it the Saints you are following , one can see there will be pain to come but is there any other way to stack up on young talent now? 3 picks in the top 25 for multiple years in a row.

The club has said it. But how does it happen, trade out players for picks? Downgrade 1st round picks for lower picks and players?
Who is best oversee the club while it happens?
What club has done it best?

Im actually suprised at how good the bombers have done it. A few years ago I thought their list was complete junk but it doesnt seem to be
Jesus, mikey. The thread OP is fine without the glowing tributes to *.

I find it really hard to argue with Crippa here

All well and good, but where there is an opportunity for a younger player that's been knocking on the door they should be given a chance. Selection this week will give us an indication of how serious the rebuild is.

If Menzel is talking about leaving, then let's entertain offers at year's end.

If he doesn't want to stay at Carlton then yes we should look at moving him on. We only want players who bleed for the jumper. Waiting until he's out of contract has shown to be an error time and time again (lots of clubs have made this mistake).

Having said that, he's one of only a handful of talented youngsters on our list that we really need to hang onto and build the list around. Cripps, Menzel, Docherty, and Jaksch are the future of this club.

Yep, trade Gibbs, Murphy, Simmo, Hendo, Walker, Menzel, Kreuzer, Yarran, Trade em all. Trade anyone with any proven skills, especially if they have two 'off' games in a row. After all, if we're rebuilding we should knock down the house and trash the joint as a fresh start. No need for senior, skilled players to show young kids the ropes, or look after them on game day, no need for them at all.

And if it doesn't work this year trash it again next year, and the year after that. If your five year plan doesn't show immediate results trash that after two years, and again two years later. No need for persistence, guts or holding your nerve. No need for a core group of experience to build a team around.

I mean, if you get two good draft picks for a Gibbs, say, well why bother sticking with him through a patch of poor form? Sends a great message to the young ones too. Perform like an experienced star from day one or we'll sack you. "No ****** passengers mate". Just what they need to hear..

In the words of Maxwell Smart ...... "missed it by that much".

FFS, we are starting to sound like the Tigers with their 5 year plans .....

With this Menzel talk, would anyone entertain Gibbs and a pick to Adelaide, Danger to Cats and D.Menzel with Geelong first pick to us. That way we maybe able to shore up T.Menzel and upgrade draft picks.
I know its waaaaayyyy to early for trade talk, so don't get excited and smash me.
