How many people are aware of what Rec Footy is?

Ive had a team in the last couple of comps (City in autumn and western suburbs last year) And am looking to put together a team again this year, possibly with some bay 114 members.

For those who dont know, its a mixed competiton of "Touch AFL". Very enjoyable and for people of all ages sizes and genders. Played in several locations in Adelaide over many nights.

I heard one person once comment "It sure as hell beats the Treadmill".

New season starts after AFL finals have finished, probably 3-4 weeks after to give people a break.

Sounds like the perfect competition to highlight my crap kicking skills :thumbsu:
Honestly, had no idea it existed - but it sounds like a lot of fun! How does it work? Is it played on full size ovals with teams of 18 or smaller? If you touch someone with the ball, is that holding the ball or a ball up or what?

to answer a few questions:

The game is played on a smaller oval - usually about the size of the 50m arc.

A different ball is used to stop the blokes kicking the length of the field.

Tackling is done by using a tag belt (like the ones you see pro teams using during practive on the telly). Same rules eg Prior opportunity and stuff like that.

There are ball ups only after a goal is scored, and it is a vertical jump to prevent knee injuries. When tagged without prior opportunity, you are given a little amount of time to get the kick away.

You can sign up teams by contacting Ben Hopkins at the SANFL, or if there are a few individuals from here that want to join my team sheet is empty at the present time - I will be asking Van Berlo, Macca and Knighta at the earliest convenience.
