For anyone who doesn't have this (from AFL Record Season Guide 2020):
...AFL Season Guide...
One that was missing from this list is Alan Quaife (Fitzroy) who passed away on 27 August 2019
Someone had added a death date to wiki page and I found RecLink Australia facebook post confirming date/identity and added as a ref on wiki page

FYI Oliver Gigacz

He also had a little bit of time in Tas, playing with City-South (NTFA) in late 60s/early 70s I think. Was in the CS Grand Final side of 1971 which lost to Scottsdale.

Don Beauvais (Carl/Haw) seems to have been mis-named in official records
His full name was Daniel Leonard Beauvais and, searching Trove, he was clearly known as Dan rather than Don

Vic BDM has birth in 1920:
Name: BEAUVAIS, Leonard Danl
Mother: Beatrice Victoria BEAMES
Father: Jno BEAUVAIS
Location: BRUNSWICK
Reg No: 28632/1920

note: Electoral rolls have him as Daniel Leonard rather than Leonard Daniel and this news article also gives his full name as Daniel Leonard Beauvais

He moved to New Norfolk in Tasmania where he played from 1948.
He is buried in Malbina, Tasmania as Daniel Beauvais

Summary: Player currently known as Don Beauvais to be known as Dan Beauvais

note: Blueseum already have him as Dan Beauvais so it is possible AFL also have this change already in their records, but AFL Tables, australianfootball.com and wiki all need updating

This is how the old AFL Historical Statistics site had him way back when it was still running/viewable:

^That's from the Carlton 1945 page, and he's also shown as Dan on the Hawthorn 1946 page:

He's Don Beauvais in The Encyclopedia, so while that change must have been made in the AFL's records 10 or more years ago, it seems not too many found out about it!

John's passing is a shock and very sad news.
I've only recently purchased his Creme de la Creme football trilogy, joining several of his other books in my library.
John's contribution to Australian Rules history from afar was nothing short of phenomenal and he will be sorely missed.
Sincere condolences to his family.

I was saddened when someone on the Port board had seen the Sports History Australia facebook post re John's death and reported his passing early yesterday evening.

I had a bit of correspondence with John around 2008 after reading his site for 3 or 4 years at that stage and was shocked by how little time he actually spent in Oz as a boy/teenager, yet maintained such a great passion for our great game.

Even though Australian Football dot com took over his site and transferred a lot of the info from there to their site, its not the same. It naturally has a different focus to what John had. Full Points Footy was just such a magnificent reference site. Thankfully web archive has archived just about every page and you can still find all that wonderful info he put up at;

It really is a complete shock, John was actually still submitting/updating club and player bios on AF as recently as last week.

I will say that although it may not be "currently" easily navigable well over 90% of everything that was on the old FPF site is online and available on AF.

We do have an upgrade in the works that we hope to get underway in the next year or so. This is a major redevelopment (AF 2.0) that has been in planning for some time now. It will vastly improve the site and bring it up to modern standards which in turn will make it easier to access all of John's incredible work along with expansions.

Interesting! This is in the Army records (there's no "paperwork" with it, but I'm not sure why he'd change his DOB by just a few days in this case!):

It does seem pretty likely the AFL records aren't correct!

The Hawks had the same DOB a few years back: https://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/720858/old-hawthorn-families-visit-museum

So just on Kevin Hevey, checked with Peter Haby at Hawthorn and he is certain that the correct date of birth is 30/04/1923. It's the date the family provided. Peter also seems certain that the AFL officially have it as 30/04/1923 as well. So it looks like only wikipedia and AFL Tables are incorrect. *Paul*

Going back a few years the AFL certainly had a different DOB, though that may well have changed in recent times (from the Historical Statistics website):

Given that the family have provided 30/04/1923 as the DOB that should be good enough, so chances are the AFL now have that in their records.

Richmond superstar Dustin Martin is mourning the death of his father.

Shane Martin passed away in New Zealand where he has been living since 2016.

The circumstances of his death are not yet known.

Richmond was made aware of Shane Martin’s death on Friday and has thrown its full support behind its champion midfielder and triple Norm Smith Medallist.

“The Richmond Football Club is mourning the passing of Shane Martin,” the club said in a statement.

“The club extends its heartfelt sympathy to Dustin, his brothers Bronson and Tyson, and the entire Martin family in this extremely difficult time.”

Dustin Martin, 30, shared a close relationship with his father and made frequent trips to New Zealand to visit him before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shane Martin was deported on grounds of character in 2016 and had failed in his recent attempts to re-enter the country.

Dustin Martin told Fox Footy earlier this year the time apart had been difficult, and said he played for his dad.

“It’s been a massive challenge, but it is what it is,” Martin told Fox Footy.

“I love my dad and he’s made me the man I am today. I’ve got full belief he’ll (be) back here to watch us win another flag.

“That’s my dream to be able to have the old man up there (in the grandstand) with the rest of my family and watch the Tiges win another flag.”

After 12 months apart, the Tigers permitted Martin to see his father in April this year when there was a travel bubble between New Zealand and Australia.
