This is our biggest problem at the moment. I think a lot is to do with the gameplan, but in the meantime the players have to take responsibility.

All areas of the ground need to lift.

The midfield need to win more contested ball, but then spread faster to move the ball quicker and also to pick opponents up when we lose the ball. They are the main problem, but also the hardest to solve. We simply can't make Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts, Morton, Evans into a ppremier midfield overnight.

The backline, in particular the half back line need to be more aggressive when defending. They need to stop their opponents getting cheap kicks around half forward. I'd like to play experienced defenders (say Rivers, Garland, Bartram) at half back and get them to try and shut their opponents out. If that means whoever is deep in the backline is exposed one on one then that's fine with me. They also need to take the game on more on the way out.

Lastly the forward line have a massive responsibility here. Guys like Watts and Howe have actually been working pretty well around half forward to attract the footy, and when the delivery has been there its been ok. But the next line in Green and Jurrah are starved of ball and also not working hard enough to keep it in. They are only getting it a handful of times per quarter and must be absolutely desperate. Unfortunately the small forwards are non existent at the moment, but Bennell could go back forward, Jamar could play deep forward and Jurrah needs a rest.

The way I see it, it comes from two major problems.

Midfield: Giving out clearances like they're going out of fashion. It;s ridiculous how easy every midfield in the comp gets it out against us.

Kick-ins: So they get it out easily, take it in the forward 50 and kick a behind. Then we have NO KICK-IN PLAN WHAT SO EVER and bomb it to the 50 metre arc on the boundary, it gets crumbed and comes straight back in. This happens 20 times a week.

It is our biggest gameplan flaw. A year or two ago we had the highest goals from kick-ins, when Jamar destroyed everyone, now this is not the case but in true Melbourne style, we have not adapted at all.

The solution as far as I see it, we should have someone present 30 metres out with a good boot, like Tappy to then go over the top of the press.

The long to a ruckman/strong key position player is a legitimate tactic, we just use it way way way too often! And we don't kick it with enough accuracy or get the numbers in ideal position.

I agree that we need to use more short kicks. There were a few open options on the weekend but both Strauss and Frawley refused to take the chance. Not sure if that was the instruction or not.

It's instruction. No players are moving for them, the only movement is to the wingsa where the big man is already standing so they can watch helplessly as the other crumbers actually play for the bacll and take it back inside 50!
