On the old footypedia forums we argued the toss over what counted. When time allows, those arguments should also be replicated here, for further assessment.
I was thinking of three sub-sections : Win from 1/4 time deficit of ... 1/2 time deficit of, etc ... Eg:
- Won from 1/4 deficit : 60 - Walpeup def TGP - Mallee FL - 1978.
- Won from 1/2 deficit : 22 - Walpeup def TGP - Mallee FL - 1978.
- Won from 3/4 deficit : 28 - Walpeup def TGP - Mallee FL - 1978.
What do you think? It does unfortunately not report the amount of outscoring in the comeback, eg differentiate between a team that came back to win by a point, and a team that came back to win by 30 (for instance #2 came back more, but #1 came back from further behind). That is one limitation.

South Launceston trailed Clarence by 78-points three minutes into the third quarter of the TFL Statewide League match at Youngtown in the early rounds of 1994, 4.6 (30) to 16.12 (108) before the Bulldogs made an amazing comeback and eventually pinched the match in the final moments by five points, 18.16 (124) to 17.17 (119).
More amazing was that Clarence were reigning TFL premiers when that match took place and they went on to win it again that year as well whilst South finished close to the bottom both years.

In 1966 at Fremantle oval at half time, South Fremantle led 9.2 to West Perth 0.4. West Perth won. I was 8 my Dad and I were at the game with his best friend, Gerald, a South Freo fan. We supported the Cardinals (WP). We weren't leaving because Gerald had driven. At 3 quarter time I think the score was something like SF 10.3 to WP 8.9. Dad was pretty happy at that point and even happier at the end. Most amazing game I ever attended. WP 12.10 to SF 10.5 at the end.

There are some excellent sites out there now which cover the scores/records of the WAFL in case you're not aware:-

I went to this game, and I'm ashamed to admit I left after half-time...! Got video from the news too...will post if I can find it...I recall watching Paul Dac at FF lining up against our kids, every South player dwarfed by the Clarence giant he was playing against, 10 goals down before I'd finished the first beer, and thought "nah...I don't have to sit through EVERY thrashing..."...!

I also left the Aus v Pakistan ODI at Bellerive in 1993 when Steve Waugh was smashed for 16 in the last over by Asif Mushtaba to tie the match, although it was actually the guy driving us all home to Launceston who wanted to go early...a few days later, I was the driver to Devonport, Tassie was being raped by Victoria well into the second innings, my mates were looking nervously at the massive storm coming in from the ocean behind us and making suggestions no less direct than "lets gtf out of here", but I was "nope - not moving..."...! I gave in at literally the last second and we raced a huge storm all the way home...

Uncovered a good one from the 1980 VAFA E Section.
ANZ Bank decimated the Mentone Old Boys by quarter time and were leading 10.10 (70) to 3.0 (18).
And by halftime, Mentone Old Boys were leading 12.11 (83) to 10.12 (72)!
The Old Boys went on to win 17.17 (119) to 16.17 (113).

Later in the season, Mentone Old Boys hosted Princes Hill and by three-quarter time, held a commanding 20.18 (138) to 7.8 (50) lead. There must have been a serious gale all day since the quarter by quarter scores were 8.7 to 0.1, 11.12 to 7.7 and 20.18 to 7.8.
Princes Hill took control of the wind and nearly wiped out the 88 point lead with a 12 goal final quarter. They only ended up losing by two straight kicks.

It was the last round and the winner of the match would be minor premiers. Really tough on the Chandada boys.

Then in the final, they played Wirrulla and the scoreboard had them winning by less than a goal after one of Chandada's players missed his set shot after the siren. Turns out that the scoreboard was wrong.

In a 1991 TFL Statewide League match at Devonport Oval, reigning TFL premiers Hobart led the home side by 49 points at the 22 minute mark of the second quarter before the Blues got a couple of late ones back before half time.
In the second half Devonport absolutely destroyed Hobart and went on to kick 20 goals for the half and win by a staggering 73 points.
Devonport 26.15 (171) d Hobart 15.8 (98)
A 122-point turnaround in two and a bit quarters!

Maybe not the biggest comeback, but a extraordinary match, that I had the pleasure to goal umpire. The winning goal was kicked after the siren.

And today, here I am back in Tassie for a week, and I saw were South playing Longford at Youngtown. Got the 11yo daughter in tow on a drizzly cold day, didn't want her wanting to go home too early, full game would be pushing it, so I thought I could try the second half of the match after doing lunch and some more strategic time wasting. Part of that time wasting was a cruise around the uni, where we stumbled onto Uni v St Pats, score 7 to 98, so I did get a ten minute footy fix at least. Crunch time, weather was hideous for a couple of fully acclimatised North Queenslanders, and at sister's place we finally gave up on the day and went home around five...

South and Longford played a draw...
