List Records & Bests - Highest Score (ex-fp discussion)

Correct. Ararat 1-0-6

Would be third on the all time list.

Individual goalkickers of 21 and 16

First +500 score in senior matches since 2009, second in Victoria.
It would be fourth highest of all time since there are two scores of 535 tied for second.

30 goals in the last quarter might also be a record.

Ararat's last major hurdle is an away game to Woorndoo Mortlake in three weeks. They conceded 53.26.344 in their home game.
Not sure if they'll see out the season after today. If they do, props for battling on.

Shame, between them and Ararat United that was all the old local Ararat teams ... Miners Caledonians etc

And despite a percentage of 7.39% that season, Blacktown actually won one game, beating Penshurst by nearly ten goals...but to be fair, Penshurst wound up forfeiting five of their next six games (playing once again, yep, NSW University, and losing by 353) and withdrew.

Connor, well done mate. Great knowledge of Sydney footy back then. I was captain of BLACKTOWN that year. Yep, really tough year but the win against Penshurst at Whalan Reserve was a highlight. That game where UNSW kicked the sweep finished with the lights on as we played 25+ time on in those days. We had a few pretty new to the game and were totally outclassed (obviously). From memory they had a couple of guys that kicked 19.
In a turn of events I have coached lower grades at UNSW/ES the last four years.
Great to read your post.

In the Riddell league, Rupertswood plays Rockbank in the last round, and Riddell plays Romsey. A win for Riddell would knock Romsey off the top, and it opens the door for Rupertswood to pile on the goals and edge into second (350-400 points would do it), which would give them a week off in the finals.

Here's what the highest scores list looks when up to date.
<snip>

487 - Vic - Katamatite 78.19.487 (v Wattville 1.3.9) - Dookie FA - 1925***

<snip>

***declared null and void because both teams conspired to allow Katamatite to win the minor premiership by eclipsing Dookie on percentage (and win the right to challenge if they lost the final). The whole league went into chaos and the season went unfinished.

In my opinion the Katamatite entry should be removed from the list altogether.
The match was declared null and void at the time - wiped from the official record.

If we are going to try and maintain lists of these various football scores/events/sequences,
then removing such entries needs to be strictly applied.

should add it to the match fixing list

There's a tall tale that circled around the newspapers for a while back in the old days, telling a story about how, one day, Brighton Juniors won a game kicking 100 goals against Moorabbin.

As the story goes, Brighton were dominating the game and Moorabbin simply decided to abandon it at half time and go home. The umpire, instead, allowed Brighton to continue kicking goals until one player, who already had 47 goals to his name, kicked a behind and the game had to be abandoned completely because nobody was there to kick it out.

Of course, that actually didn't happen. The original story went through a long game of Chinese whispers.

The actual story originated in 1914 from the Federal Football Association. Middle Brighton had just come off a 292 to 0 victory against the eventually winless Heatherton. Then came a new report that Middle Brighton had shellacked Moorabbin Park 47.5.287 to 2.0.12, with captain "Bob" Edmunds kicking 42 of the goals.

Higher-ups at the Moorabbin Park club took notice and were forced to issue a correction. It turns out that the secretary for Middle Brighton, who published the report of the game, didn't mention a few key details.

What had really happened was that Moorabbin Park turned up with just six players, but also got the services of two of their own supporters to take to the field as well. Surprisingly, Moorabbin Park took a 1.0.6 to 0.5.5 lead at the quarter time break, but understanding that fatigue would catch up to them, chose to forfeit. Everybody went home, except the umpire, three Middle Brighton players, and a sole Moorabbin Park player who, I suppose, just wanted to do something on a Saturday. The umpire had been convinced by Edmunds to stay back and allow them to take the lead, so he bounced the ball to start the second quarter. The ball was quickly passed to Edmunds, who strolled in and kicked a goal. Middle Brighton were now leading 1.5.11 to 1.0.6.

Instead of calling the game there, the umpire would bounce the ball, the centre would pass it to half-forward, the half-forward would pass it to Edmunds, and Edmunds would kick the goal, and that was repeated another 45 times. Late in the game, the Moorabbin Park player, who was still there and defending valiantly, somehow managed to beat all three opponents and kick a goal himself.

Of course, the Association weren't going to have it. A week and a bit after corrections were issued in The Argus, they held a meeting to resolve the issue. Considering that Moorabbin Park intended to abandon the game at quarter time, they would have to declare victory to Middle Brighton. Instead of just giving it to them outright, they decided that Edmunds' first goal was the only goal that stood, being the one that put Middle Brighton into the lead. The other 46 Middle Brighton goals (and the one Moorabbin Park goal...) were stricken.

Just looking at that list there, I wonder how many.of these teams are still about?
Most of those one listed for Tassie are dead and buried like Woodsdale, Cambridge, Colebrook, Railway were reformed circa early 90s and a guy that spent years in jail used to go around on a bus and collect blokes to play each week and play out at the old Clare Street Rec in New Town, folded about 93/94.
Quandiene was in the ammos based up around Launceston, folded about 1979/80.
Couple still around, not many tho.

Primrose (based at Maryborough's ground) folded in 1994, citing player numbers.
Landsborough went out in 2001 for the same reason.
Baulkham Hills are still around as East Coast Eagles in the Sydney AFL.
Port Elliot would go on a 72 game losing streak that ended in August 1998, defeating Goolwa by three points. Three years later, the clubs merged and today compete as Goolwa/Port Elliot.
Boronia Park went out in 2002.
Not much detail comes out of the Woomera league, but the Joint Defense club may have only lasted one season.
Brunswick Power went the same way as Primrose and Landsborough in 2007 - Whipping boys and eventually a player exodus.

The club's name keeps jumping from Wyong to The Lakes in the annual reports that it's annoying.

On Anzac Day 1987, Geelong West 3rds visited Port Melbourne and went down by 412 points, 67.36 (438) to 4.2 (26). The following day at Geelong West, Port won the Reserves game over the Roosters by 381 points, 61.27 (393) to 2.0 (12). That meant that in the senior game, Port required 169 points to reach 1000 points in the three games against GW over the weekend. The Borough managed only 23.21 (159) in a 103 point win. That meant that Port's total score for the weekend was 151.84 (990). Has any club achieved the thousand in this manner?

Two weeks earlier, Frankston had kicked 21.19 (145) in the seniors, 36.21 (237) in the Reserves, and 92.30 (582) in the Thirds to total 964 points over the weekend. That was also against Geelong West, naturally.
