The Western Rams (formerly Rockbank) are currently 77 games without a win, which is now quite comfortably the longest streak in Victoria.

Since their move from the Riddell District FNL to the Western FNL in 2024, they've been showing some promising signs – three scores of 78 and above is encouraging for a team that's used to being belted by 200 points on the regular.

Of the other big Victorian streaks documented in this December 2023 Herald Sun article:
  • Maryborough in the Bendigo FNL are up to 52 games without a win. They got within 55 pts of Kangaroo Flat in Round 2 but were belted by Gisborne and then Sandhurst in the following two rounds by a combined 591 points, which is awfully sad
  • Lalor broke a 44-game losing streak in Round 3 of the Northern FNL this year. They defeated Kilmore by 3 points, and to follow it up, defeated Reservoir by 14 points two games later!
  • Nilma Darnum broke a 39-game losing streak in the opening round of this year's Ellinbank DFL with a 144-point drubbing of Nyora. It's always fascinating when these long losing streaks get broken with such massive victories, as it almost always happens in Round 1 when leagues look to schedule two cellar-dwellers against each other so at least one can get their year off to a good start. The Bombers have had another two victories since then but certainly aren't out of the woods, losing their most recent match to ladder leaders Buln Buln by 130 points.
  • Wahgunyah, "the team that became famous for losing", broke a 41-game streak in Round 3 this year with a stirring 9-point victory over Dederang-Mt Beauty. Former AFL player Harley Bennell had a run-around; the ABC also followed up their initial article with this match report. Things are still mighty tough at the Lions though – their most recent match was a 310-point loss to Kiewa Sandy Creek.
  • North Sunshine are having a very rough time of it – goalless on three occasions this year, no doubt due in some part to the farcical decision by the Western FNL to scrap the third division competition, creating a hopelessly lopsided Division 2 in its place. Their losing streak is now up to 45 games. All eyes are on the match between Western Rams and North Sunshine on Saturday 22 June – barring a draw, one club will be singing the song for the first time in thousands of days.
  • Rumbalara broke its 40-game losing streak in the Murray FNL with a big 81-point victory over struggling Echuca United in Round 4 this year. Rumba have been fairly competitive each week since, with an average losing margin of 36 points.
  • Gormandale in the North Gippsland FNL are now up to 37 games without a win and don't look like coming any closer. Glengarry, who are second-botttom with a percentage of 30.58%, defeated Gormandale by 85 points in the opening round.
  • Westerns are big improvers in the South West District FNL. After 27 games without a win, they crushed the struggling Heathmere by 106 points in Round 1, and are now sitting mid-table with a 5–3 W/L record after eight rounds.
I'll leave it there for now.

The now defunct Channel Football Club, based out of Snug, Tasmania holds, as far as I'm aware, the Tasmanian record for most consecutive defeats with 62.
This was recorded between 14th July 2007 and broken on 14th May 2011 over two different competitions.
They lost their final 23 matches in the SFL Regional League before moving to the Old Scholars Football Association at the start of 2009 whereby they lost their first 39 matches until they recorded an 18-point win over DOSA (Dominic Old Scholars Association) at North Hobart Oval.
The Saints had been struggling for many years leading up to that record, their last strong year was in 1999 where they dropped the SFL Preliminary Final to Brighton by a point at Huonville.

Current Old Scholars Football Association club, Richmond, are now sitting in second place on that list having recorded their 58th consecutive loss over the weekend.
The Blues path to infamy was somewhat sudden and catastrophic having been one of the top clubs vying for premierships on a consistant basis for a number of years right up until their last recorded victory on 14th September 2019 in the OSFA Preliminary Final, an 18-point win over OHA at Richmond.
Their 2019 Grand Final loss to DOSA at North Hobart was the beginning of the 58-game streak.

Former Darwin Football Association club, Myalla, recorded 57 consecutive losses between 1993 and 1995. 20240629_232253.jpg 20240629_232317.jpg

Richmond now at 59.
Suffered a 39.18 (252) to 1.5 (11) defeat to DOSA at the TCA Ground this afternoon.
Reserves went down by 211 points, looking pretty bleak for the Blues.

60. A bit better performance by them today only going down by 64 points to third placed Hutchins at Richmond, 15.15 (105) to 6.5 (41).
The Blues face an out of form University at the Uni in Sandy Bay next week followed by St Virgils who have started to hit their straps in recent weeks out at New Town Bike Track, they face DOSA at Richmond the week after, which if they lose, they will claim the Tasmanian record. 20240629_230802.jpg 20240629_231626.jpg

The Western Rams broke their 78-game losing streak – the then-longest in Australia – not too long ago.

To do with a 177-point victory is quite astounding, but it really doesn't say much for the future of North Sunshine :(

What would be left out of that region if Rosebery-Toorak go? Just Queenstown now?

Always wondered what the "Toorak" in "Rosebery-Toorak" referred to (eg prior those clubs merging), as I was never able to find a location matching it. Maybe it was a second club in Rosebery, the name of a mine or other business etc. Or maybe I did find out one day and then forgot because now I'm old and don't remember things anymore.

I also wonder when the last game of footy was played at Savage River in the same region, or perhaps there was never footy there, and only cricket.

Yeah, just Queenstown and the Zeehan and Strahan junior sides. Very sad to see a once-strong league condensed down to only a couple of clubs.
According to Wikipedia Tullah-Savage River folded in 1988 so presumably around then. Not sure whether they played at Savage River or Tullah, or both, though.

The Rams coach Ash Pritchard is the former Collingwood Reserves and Melbourne Under 19s player.

After defeating OHA (Old Hobartians Association) at Geilston Bay Oval on 8th August 2015, St Virgils College Old Boys Football Club in the Old Scholars Football Association in Hobart had a run of 55 consecutive defeats from 15th August 2015 to 4th August 2018.
Their terrible run came to an end when they defeated their biggest rival, Hutchins, by 15 points at the New Town Cycle Track Oval on 11th August 2018.
Following on from that, the Saints went on to lose their next 19 games in a row only to defeat Hutchins, again at New Town, by 15 points on 24th August 2019.
Their run of 1-74-0 remains one of the worst runs in Tasmanian football history.
Just four years later, the Saints would win a senior premiership, undefeated for the season.

Another 300+ loss for Rosebery-Toorak ...

Banjos NWFA Seniors
Full Time
Rosebery-Toorak 0 0 0
Motton Preston 54 21 345

0-12, 66 for, 3643 against, 1.81%
That percentage dwarfs the awful records of Mordialloc and Geelong West Under-19 teams in the VFA at various points during the 1970s and 1980s.

If I recall correctly Mordialloc Under-19s lost something like 63 consecutive games during the 1970s, and had more winless seasons during the 1980s. Geelong West Under-19s had seasons with percentages of 10 and 9.6 in 1981 and 1987.

Unfortunately, the only source for data on the VFA Under-19s I know of is Charge of the White Horse Brigade: A History of the Box Hill Football Club — 1951 to 2019 by John Ure. Although it only give ladders, the figures are so striking that they warrant discussion.

This was the Victorian list as of 10 July 2024: (30 games plus)

MARYBOROUGH, Bendigo - 62 games
The Bendigo league outfit now has the longest losing streak in local footy. The team has not won a game since 2021 when the team defeated Castlemaine. Since then the team has lost 62 in a row, including a record-breaking 333-point loss to Sandhurst, a few weeks ago.

NORTH SUNSHINE, Western - 55 games
Hasn’t won a game since 2021 and lost all 18 games during the season. The team has the longest losing streak in metro Victorian footy.

GORMANDALE, North Gippsland - 47 games
The North Gippsland side hasn’t won since round one in 2022 and were winless last year and this year.

CARAMUT, Mininera - 41 games
Has a losing streak at more than two years. The Swans lost all games last year and this year and the last 10 in the 2022 season.

MELTON SOUTH, Ballarat - 39 games
It’s been a tough two seasons for Melton South with the Panthers losing all games in 2023 and 2024. The team has not won since 2022 and could be in another league next year.

SOUTH YARRA, Southern - 37 games
Forced to withdraw their senior team from Division 4 in the Southern League last year, after eight straight losses, but the club came back this year. The team has lost 37 matches in a row including all 18 matches this season.

CAMPBELLS CREEK, Maryborough District - 36 games
It's been another tough year for the Magpies, losing all 16 matches. The last win for the team came in 2022 when it defeated Maryborough Rovers, who are now an amalgamated side.

BUNYIP, West Gippsland - 36 games
Lost every game last season in the competition after getting rid of Tim McGibney as coach at the end of 2022. This year the team has lost all 18 matches. Their last win came in round 18 in 2022 against Dalyston.

PORTLAND, Hampden - 33 games
The Tigers have not won a game in the Hampden league since Anzac Day last year. The streak has now increased to 33 matches after losing all 18 matches this season.

EAST SUNBURY, Essendon District - 32 games
Still yet to win a match despite coming out of recess in 2022. East Sunbury lost 16 games last year and all 16 this year.

This was the Victorian list as of 13 May 2025: (30 games plus)

Note: Maryborough and North Sunshine are currently one and two on the list, with 62 and 55 straight losses respectively, but are in recess for season 2025. Yarroweyah, who have also not won in 23 games and would be on the list, are also in recess.

Gormandale – 51 games without a win
Started the season with 47 straight losses in the North Gippsland league but didn’t lose in the first game of the season after being involved in an abandoned game with Sale City after a Tigers player got injured. The last win for the Tigers came in round one in 2022. The streak is currently at 51.

Bunyip – 41 losses
Made the move back to the Ellinbank league in the off-season after playing in the West Gippsland league. The losing streak is currently 41 games after losing its first five games of the season. The Bulldogs have the chance to end the drought this weekend, taking on Nyora, who only recently ended a losing drought of its own.

Campbells Creek – 40 losses
Currently on a 40-game losing streak stretching back to 2022. The previous win, against the Maryborough Rovers in 2022, ended a 29-game losing streak.

Nice to see the size of the list has essentially halved, although at the expense of two clubs going into recess entirely.

  • Gormandale (0–7, 19.4%) play Churchill (1–7, 45.9%) in two weeks' time in what will almost certainly be their only chance of breaking the drought this season.

  • Bunyip is now off the list! They lost their Rd 6 match against Nyora by just one point, and after a couple of consecutive drubbings, came close to toppling Lang Lang in Rd 9, losing by just 13 points. Then, on Saturday just gone, the Bulldogs treated their home fans to a triumphant 27-point victory over Poowong (now 0–10, 25.9%).

  • Campbells Creek (0–8, 15.6%) have had a tough time kicking a score this year, and their chances look slim. They host Maryborough Giants (0–7–1, 49.9%) in two weeks' time in their only potential chance for victory.

North Sunshine have been fielding a Thirds side in the WFNL this season and have won 5 games, does that get them off the list?

Richmond (Old Scholars FA) now at 77 consecutive losses after today.

Rosebery-Toorak are now sitting at 27 after another heavy defeat, this time by 282 points to Sheffield.
The Hawks have scored 11.8 (74) for the entire football season so far, 10.5 (65) of that came in one game, against second-bottom Turners Beach.

SFL Community League club Claremont are on 33, NTFA Division Two's University Lions currently sitting at 31.
