After playing in the TFL grand final on September 22, Hudson played in the State of Origin carnival in Perth. He played against Queensland on October 4 and Western Australia on October 6, which is where the additional seven goals come from to take him from 202 to 209.

Ah yep, that'd be why. Strangely the TANFL never counted that towards their records they kept, which under the way they were keeping records at the time, should've been. Good pick up! 👍
That's probably one of the reasons why they abolished that idea and stuck to counting league totals solely from league games (roster matches and finals) after that.
As an example, Hobart's young full forward of the day, Paul Courto booted 86 goals in the shortened 1980 TANFL season when Hobart won the flag.
He also booted 35 goals for Hobart when they won the 1980 Winfield Statewide Cup, which was held amongst the 21 Tier One clubs in Tasmania (TANFL, NTFA & NWFU) at the time immediately prior to the TANFL season starting. That gave him 121 goals for the season across the two competitions but is only ever listed as finishing with 86.
Wayne Fox was officially stated as being the only Hobart player in their 76 year history to have kicked over 100 goals in a season with tons in 1986 (105 goals) and 1988 (110 goals).
Under the previous way of counting, Courto would've joined him.

Michael Smith's 232 goals for Killarney Vale in 1986 is more incredible because he only started playing in Round 8.

Round 8: 14 vs Gosford-Wyoming
Round 9: 39 vs Wyong (KV kicked a then record 78.31.499)
Round 10: 7 vs Terrigal
Round 11: 19 vs Bateau Bay
Round 12: 16 vs Woy Woy
Round 13: 12 vs Gosford-Wyoming
Round 14: 24 vs Wyong
Round 15: 11 vs Terrigal
Round 16: 21 vs Bateau Bay
Round 17: 13 vs Woy Woy
Round 18: 6 vs Gosford-Wyoming
Round 19: 20 vs Wyong
Round 20: 12 vs Terrigal
2nd Semi Final: 5 vs Gosford-Wyoming
Grand Final: 13 vs Gosford-Wyoming

Mick would have easily passed 300 and been pushing towards 350 if he played the whole year. He would definitely have had another piece of Wyong in Round 4 when KV scored 60.31 against them.
