They may look at the likes of knightmare, who actually knows things, but the rest of us, who are just expressing opinions, I'm sure they ignore with equanimity.

Knightmare is just expressing opinions just like others. The difference is in the depth he goes to to justify and the tone of his comments giving a sense of certainty.

However it became widely accepted that we were into 'Bont' is unacceptable. Dogs heard whispers and thought Collingwood knows there stuff and chipped in before us.

According to bigfooty posters at this stage we are into Laverde. For all we know he could be the next Xavier Ellis and the Collingwood recruiters are into Ahern who will be the next Robbie Gray. It's just that I don't want to know what they are interested in.

We have no evidence that either we were into Bont at 6, nor that the Bulldogs weren't but changed when they read a news article a few days from the draft...

Bont considered by all and sundry to go later. Then strong word Pies were keen. The only after this the Dogs firmed as the side to take him at pick 4. All speculation, but I just want us to be hush hush about this draft, perhaps we can put in some false leads. I think the top ten is more even then people think.

Speculation by who? BF posters? Media? Perhaps they had as little idea as the rest of us...

So Cloke's going to Full Back?
Cloke should have been trialled as a full back to see how he went that's all I said. If it worked out we had a second swing option for the big guys and a more useful position for him when he's out of form.

With the likes of Knighter and Snoop (et al) on this board and I'm assuming similar folk on opposition boards does anyone think that clubs recruiting staff might scan sites like this for whispers?
The way that Bontempelli went from "our smokey" to a top 4 pick last year and just out of our reach means that if Knighter or Snoop (or others) play up big on a new kid they've had something to do with or spent a long time watching....it's like having extra recruiting staff for opposition clubs!

Loose lips....sink ships pies fans.

Or is it all BS and none cares?

doubt they have time

It's a lottery anyway.
Any of us could have a look though the draft prospects and pick a decent player in the top 20.
Whether it works out or not is just chance.
When you look at all the draft choices since Hine has been at the club, only a small percentage actually make it, and there's not much way of knowing.

Does anyone think the conversation would go something like this;

Matt R: "Dekka, I can't pick between Bonts and Shazza, I can't split 'em I really need some help"
Dekka: "No sweat Matty, head over to BigFooty, take a look at a few of their phantom drafts, they'll know what to do, but geez, I hope no one else is looking at that stuff it will give away what we've got planned"

Or maybe It was reverse psychology so that he picks Laverde, so we can pick McCartin ;)

They really don't (or they really do) need Wright though as they have Mummy there (or Mummy isn't getting any younger).

Damn now I'm getting confused - I wish SOS would make up his mind already...

That's how I see it working. Reckon you are onto something here BJ.:p:rolleyes:

Is there any evidence to this? I'm going to go out and say this is absolutely completely false. The Bulldogs recruiters are also professionals who work all year to evaluate the talent and I just find it staggering that they would change their mind because they read in the paper we would be interested. It makes no sense to me. We have good recruiters, but nothing like the sort that would cause other professionals at the top of their game to totally reverse on their own judgement. The reason the dogs took Bontempelli at their pick is because that's where they rated him, nothing else.
This. What if the Dogs recruiters were also into him but they were just better at keeping it secret? Seems weird that people would think its more likely that they were more influenced by newspaper articles and bigfooty buzz than their own professional assessment of him

My fiendish plan is working beautifully now.....keep it up boys

I don't know anything about footy recruiting ...

... but I do have a fair insight into some other industries and it is not uncommon at all for so called "professionals" with big reputations and high salaries to be utter utter blathering incompetent fools who have no friggin idea what they're doing. And there are amateurs in the same industry who are so much more capable.

Of course that's the exception, not the rule.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if footy recruiting was the same.

I'm sure if you sat down with Hine over a bottle of Port, he would tell you that folks like Knightmare and Snoop Dog have got more of an idea about footy recruiting than a Senior Recruiter _____ at club _____.

I agree with this 76. In our small specialist consultancy firm, we have about a 1 in 3 or 4 hit rate with recruiting staff. We base it on experience, qualifications, CV, interviews, referees and reputation (if relevant), and we still dont get it right! The whole 'science' of recruiting is flawed IMO. I have to believe the Pies are better at drafting!

Excuse me. I've watched a few youtube vids and am an professional recruiter now.

Don't mind him, he's not a believer.

I just spent the night playing NFL on Playstation and have just finished sending out my resume to all the clubs I'm interested in playing for.

Million dollar contract here I come.......

I'm sure every recruiter from every club goes on Big Footy to get advice on recruiting.
You have to be an absolute moron to even think that this is a possibility.
Half of the posters here are probably pimple faced kids (no offence intended).
The HS were vocal last year that Pies were into Bontompelli.
Does not mean that Bulldogs were also.
The clubs do not pay scouts and recruiters to scour the internet for tips on who to recruit.
They actually go to games and watch the potential recruits play & seek opinions of clubs who the kids play for.

I can tell within a couple of minutes of meeting someone whether they are the real deal or not.
If you need me to come along to your next recruitment VP let me know and I'll scope them out for you, for a small fee of course.

I can see it now ...

BBB: "Thank-you for coming to the interview today"

Interviewee: "Oh the pleasure is mine!"

BBB: "This is how it's going to work: If we give you the job here at Vicky Park's consultancy firm, and I find out afterwards you're full of <censored>, I'm going to piledrive you, got it?"

Interviewee: "Oh?"

BBB: "Question 1: Are you full of <censored>?"

...

:P

Well what he was sort of saying Dave, was that almost anyone can spit out a top ten or first round but the next challenge was doing the next 50. He also said most people that do a phantom draft don't understand the traits of an AFL player.
