Last Sunday morning Rucci said he was in the Port rooms after the prelim and was told (from a club official I assumed) that we had a player signed already. I don't know whether to believe it or not. It wasn't Ryder obviously.

I would not be surprised if we will secure a free agent.
Lowden?

As someone else noted, we don't have "magic beans" to be in a position to complete more than one major trade.
Even with the Ryder trade, we will be relying on some very astute drafting akin to last year, to get some decent developing players at lower picks.
If we do get Ryder, our only hope of netting another AFL listed talent is by free agency, or picking up a rookie listed player like Lowden.

Would people support a straight swap of Butcher for Liam Jones, assuming the latter is a reasonable clubman and personality? On AFL proven talent, I would.

If everything goes the way I think, our off season could end up like this.

IN:
Ryder (Pick 16 + Stevenson or Butcher)
Pick 34 - Development KPD
Lowden (Pick 50 via Geelong)
Pick 52 - Johansen (Small forward to be turned into Outside Mid later in career)
Pick 70 - Mitchell upgraded off rookie list
Rookie Pick 1 - Baulderstone
Rookie Pick 2 - Krakouer
International Rookie - Wagner

OUT:
Newton (To Geelong for Pick 50)
Pick 16 + Stevenson or Butcher (For Ryder)
Pick 50 (Via Geelong for Lowden)
Heath
Hitchcock

Make it our first round pick and it would be pretty close to the Collingwood offer for Nick Stevens.
Heath Scotland turned out to be a pretty good player. I think he's way ahead of Cam Hitchcock. A couple of their other offers were closer to the Cam mark.

Flat out, if anything even remotely like that gets through then the ASADA bans/get out clause are playing a HUGE role in the negotations. Ryder is one of their most important players and although nowhere near the worth of a Wines or a Wingard, I was expecting at a minimum our first round draft pick + someone on the fringe of the 22 (Young, Moore, etc).

IIRC before Scotland they were trying to pass on their first round pick plus Betheras, who they ended up delisting not too many weeks later.
Yeah there were some ordinary offers. Mark McGough was another. Anyway, not really relevant so I will stop channelling Neil Balme. :p

Milera!

Oh god no, please don't let it be true!
Probably no truth in it but he was OK a couple of years back.Maybe a change of scenery would do him good>Might be good for Butch as well. His career doesn't seem to be going forward.Maybe a change can do him good as well?
