With waite being 32 it is just a bad idea full stop. We are better off targeting Lycett and having either him or Redden play the second ruck/fwd position. Maybe Shaw will be ready next year. That would give us three options.
yeah fair call on that one, thats IF we get Lycett, hope we do

We are running of the risk of Schulz burning out at his current workload.

If Shaw/Butcher/Harvey aren't ready, we need a stop gap solution. We can't afford to be too cute with age, because an old but serviceable key forward helping Schulz is better than no Schulz.

Ironically, after wearing out all this tread on Schulz's tires this year, we will have to play Butcher (Year 6) and/or Shaw (Year 3) next year as 'readiness' will no longer be an excuse. (Plus, we'll probably get Lycett).

In sum, wasted year of Schulz's prime, dreadful list management in not having a plug-and-play forward this year.

This says to me Lycett has already told West Coast hes going, or West Coast is already preparing for it
I would think we'd be one of those 3 clubs looking at Lowden also but it does suggest to me that they're not confident in getting Lycett to recommit, seems like that Crow fan who posted a page or 2 back that we've offered Scott a much better deal has him strongly considering a move to us.

Maybe next time instead of taking a poxy flanker like Jasquibs we do the right thing & pick up a local big man like Lycett or a gun forward in Darling instead of stuffing around with our first rounders & we wouldn't be in this position with a list lacking quality height.

I wouldn't mind Johnston from Adelaide as depth or a third tall (whatever we call it next year) would be cheap, can play and he's already in the state so doesn't have to move

Add in lycett with our first pick

And maybe trade in griffiths as a ruck/fwd with our second pick

And we won't be in an amazing position but it's a lot better than what we have now

If we don't land anyone then we probs could pick him up as a delisted free agent.

Johnson no upside but I'm a bit interested in Wayan Manson in that role if we think we can make him comfortable here.

He's an idea albeit a last option saloon type pick up, maybe a good pre-season and a few teaspoons of cement in his coffee every morning

The only appeal of Johnston or the like is a player traded in is more likely to be picked. So we'd get an extra tall forward playing. Right result for the wrong reasons, but I'd take it right now.

Sorry , but wouldn't he cost a tiny little bit more , do we need to throw in a pie sweetener ? Or a third club to get this over the line --- firstly does he want too come our way ?
He would cost a first rounder at least.

The word is that he wants to stay but he's asking for a four year deal so his contract ends when he's eligible for free agency, which would give him bargaining power for his next contract. Apparently the club want to offer him three years.

Johnston is a much better player at the Crows than Schulz was at Richmond. Just sayin'. If we used our first and second picks on Lycett and Griffiths and picked up Johnston as a DFA, suddenly ruck and KPF depth are no longer problems after one off-season.

Personally I wouldn't be opposed to Waite either, but Kern has shown that he's not a quick fix kind of guy, so I can't see it happening.

A first round with an upgrade on our second round and everyone's happy. How are you off for forwards?

He was a superstar in the AFLNT but went back home to WA.
If he has his head screwed on right then he could be Jurrah like.
In performance on the field not off it I have to add.

FFS Butcher is not going to net us anything decent. Do people think other clubs recruiting staff don't watch players from other teams? First and foremost he'd only be looked at by clubs that are desperate for KPF's. Second he's had both plenty of injuries and lack of form. The only club that would possibly offer even a semi-decent pick is the Bulldogs on the old 'they played brilliant against us' rationale. And even that it was against a prior coach, so that's likely gone.

I want Butcher retained next year (I think a full pre-season working on skills could get him up to serviceable), but if he goes if we get a pick under 40 on current output it'd be break out the drinks time.

Would anyone be against getting Waite?? out of contract and a FA if we picked him up on say a cheap 2-3 year deal it would give us a little more time to develop Shaw and Butcher/Harvey, itll cost us nothing and will give Schulzy some support up forward.
injury prone, old man, dickhead

no thanks
