Quick summary of the KPP/Rucks discussed so far: (sorry about the size of post and formatting)
  1. Dan Gorringe, 200cm, 88kg, Age 22, pick 10 GCS
Athletic, ruck and forward. Injury prone. 50/50 to come home to SA
  2. Rhys Stanley, 200cm, 95kg, Age 23, Pick 47 St Kilda
Athletic. Unproven, more forward than ruck. Unlikely to come to port as getting chances at St Kilda
  3. Jon Griffin, 201cm, 99kg, Age 28, Fremantle
Experienced. Ready to go. Age. Injury prone. Apparently more likely to go to Crows, if at all
  4. Jon Giles, 201cm, 99kg, Age 26 GWS
Experienced and ready to go. Has hit a ceiling. More ruck than forward. Why would he come back when he is likely to have more chance of playing elsewhere?
  5. Padriag Lucey, 201cm, ?weight, Age 21, Ireland
Athletic. Mates with Flynny Inexperienced. Project ruck. Why not? But Port may not want another project
  6. Jeremy Cameron, 196cm, 89kg, Age 21. GWS. Amazing player. Not a beast forward… No chance of leaving
  7. Sam Day, 196cm, 103kg, Age 21, Pick 3 GCS. Solid KPD. Not a ruck and struggled up front. Why would he leave GCS? Who would he knock out of our side?
  8. Sam Baulderstone, 200cm, 113kg, Age 23, Norwood, Strong ruck. Is he a good enough forward, is he skilled enough and is his fitness good enough?
  9. Ben Haren, 198cm, 92kg, Age 21, Sydney then Port Magpies
Played SANFL + AFL. Versatile ?Athletic and skilful enough for AFL. Why not? Maybe as a rookie
  10. Ben Griffiths, 200cm, 102kg, Age 22, Richmond
Experienced and ready to go. ?Athletic and skilful enough for AFL. Trade for a 3rd rounder. Why would he leave?
  11. Tyrone Vickery, 200cm, 98kg, Age 23, Richmond
Experienced and ready to go. ?Overpay for what you get. Trade for 2nd rounder.. unlikely to leave
  12. Lewis Johnston, 193cm, 91kg, Age 23, Sydney then Crows. Great kick. No ability to tackle, pressure or get his own ball. Failed at 2 clubs. DFA. Unlikely and not a fan
  13. Luke Lowden, 204cm, 102kg, Age 23, Pick 63 Hawks
Developed and ready to go. Little experience. ?forward abilities. Possible but why would he leave the Hawks where he is a 3rd option ruck to come to Port to be a 3rd option ruck
  14. Adam Tomlinson, 193cm, 87kg, Age 20 GWS
Athletic, Versatile, skilled. ?Tall enough to be different from what we have. Still developing. Why would he choose Port over Victoria?. ?Overpay for what you get. Unlikely
  15. Kristian Jaksch, 194cm, 85kg, Age 19, Pick 12 GWS, Athletic, Versatile, skilled. ?Tall enough to be different from what we have. Still developing. Why would he choose Port over Victoria?. ?Overpay for what you get. Unlikely
  16. Nick Jackson, 195cm, 87kg, Brisbane Lions academy. Versatile. Good rebounder. Still developing. Not sure the lions won't pick him up but possible
  17. Sam Durdin, 197cm, 87kg, Age 18, West Adelaide
Athletic and versatile. Like a 2nd Trengrove. Played SANFL. Didn’t have a great championship and may not be a great forward. Not unless we can get a pick in the top 5
  18. Hugh Goddard, 195cm, 92kg, Age 18, Geelong Falcons
Athletic and versatile. Didn’t have a great championship and probably more of a CHB than forward. Not unless we can get a pick in the top 10
  19. Sean Mclaren, 197cm, 91kg, Age 18, Sandringham Dragons
Athletic and versatile. Ruck and KPD. Not highly rated. ?ability to make it. Why not? Likely 2nd/3rd rpound draft pick
  20. Tyler Keitel, 194cm, 90kg, Age 18, WA
Versatile and has played WAFL. Poor year and has dropped off. ?Tall enough. Why not? Likely 2nd round draft pick
  21. Jed Redden, 198cm, 87kg, Age 19, Glenelg
Played SANFL. Versatile, mostly KPD/Ruck. Missed out last year in a poor year for talls. Why not? Maybe as a rookie
  22. Jesse Watchmen, 196cm, 91kg, Age 18. West Adelaide
Played SANFL. AIS grad. Inconsistent year and commentators seemed to have gone off him. Why not?
  23. Peter Spurling, 199cm, 85kg, Age 18, Glenelg
Good ruck, Not highly rated and not sure of his forward credentials. Why not? Maybe as a rookie
  24. Cameron Conlon, 198cm, 87kg, Age 19, Northern Knights Vic, Forward/Ruck with reasonable athleticism. Horrible knee injury and missed out last year in a poor year for talls. ?Ability to make it. Maybe as a rookie.

Griffin + Gorringe/draftee would cost minimal, fills depth roles and can look to use higher picks on a forward via trade or draft. still confident we could land Durdin so i don't want us to lose that first rounder.

If we get Durdin it would be the greatest heist in afl draft history. He will go top 5

I am not sold he will go top 5. coming back from a thumb injury he's now had a championships where he averaged 10 disposals, 3 marks and kicked 1 goal that whole time. he may have been rushed back but still he has yet to register in the bests for reserves and has been shown up by Watchman.

also should add in the fact much of the clubs below us require midfielders. Melbourne, GWS and West Coast. if St Kilda don't finish last and suddenly theres no McCartin do they go for a Petracca instead of Wright? it's impossible to guess but i don't think it is a foregone conclusion.

I remember everyone was saying Brodie Grundy was a top 3 lock and he ended up sliding to Collingwood at pick 18.
It was pipedream when I hoped Port would pick him with our first pick (7).
Obviously I'm happy with Ollie Wines, But the point I'm making is you never know what can happen.

Especially with ruckman - Nathan Vardy was a top 10 pick too apparently and went in the 40's IIRC.

http://www.fox8.tv/shows/the-recruit/recruits/padraig-lucey The thing about Padraig is I don't think he's any further away from AFL level than anyone else we are likely to pick up in the draft. I'd be interested if we can't get Gorringe then maybe bring Baulderstone in as insurance and maybe Burgo can bring him up to another level with Padraig as a long term option if the club rate him at all.

Difference with Durdin is that the Crows need a key defender more than anything else and won't let him slip past if he is still there. Although if they sign Frawley they may look to a midfielder.

Very unlikely though and the same with Goddard.

Im not really getting the whole, why would X come to port to be our 3rd string ruck.
Redden would slip back to third string if we got across an, even slightly, experienced big man.
Redden is a hugly unknown quantity who may never play more then 20 games. Injuries have set him back, isnt proven etc etc. he might just be potential and never get to the heights we are hoping. Right now he has proved nothing.
Lowden, Giles, Griffths would be ahead of him right now in the 22!

Fair call. It was based on Redden finally getting a good bill of health but you make very valid points.

The Crows need running defenders a lot more than they need a back up for Talia. Their problem is only Smith can run the ball out of defense, whereas the rest of them are one paced average players.

Sanderson will be looking for a player who can have immediate impact since this is the first year the Crows have draft picks without sanctions. I wouldn't be surprised if they pass on Durdin at all.
