you guys dont rate him? whats he like?
He's a good VFL player but I just don't think he has the tools required to be a good ruck going forward. Has been on our list for six years and other rucks have been given games ahead of him and the fact that Ceglar got elevated from the rookie list and went ahead of him in the pecking order doesn't bode well for Lowden at Hawthorn. Maybe a change of clubs could see him develop into a better player. Who knows. If Port end up getting him I hope he can do well and make a good fist of it.

Youngy just signed on and the club thinks he's a big part of the future midfield, it would be unlikely he would be traded unless we were having a shot at a genuine best 22 KPF.
Okay didn't know that. We were actually going to draft Aaron Young with pick number 38 in the 2010 national draft but Port Adelaide took him at pick 36 and we ended up drafting Mitch Hallahan instead. :p

So what we're saying is, there's no excuse for us NOT to pick a key position player with our first pick...
Will argue...

The key position player we pick up in the draft is a 3 year project if we haven't been successful in trading our pick for a decent KF then we add a couple of seasons to get 50 games into him.
By this stage if we are lucky we have a gun forward...... but no midfield for supply.

Trade our first pick for KP if not then best midfield player our first choice KPF is gone by our pick..... Our next pick a replacement for Jacko or Bobby we need tall defenders around the 200cm we are not in a hole because our forwards are down we are in a hole because our tall defenders went down.... Then forwards to develop.

Midfield.... Defence..... Forwards?

Srs? When Rutten retires their second best key defender will be Andy Otten. Their fully fit best 22 next year is going to look like our defence when Carlile and Trengove were injured.

Otten and Henderson are more Jonas and O'Shea types than proper key defenders, and Thompson and Hartigan would be lucky to get a game for the Port Magpies firsts.
I'm saying they'll want a quick fix as part of a marketing strategy. A player that will come in and play well straight away. I'm not saying Durdin isn't that player, but if he's sliding, the Crows might give him a wide berth too because they need to make their first pick a sure fire hit.

I don't think that's it a given that the Crows (or us, for that matter) will pick the best available SA player. I would guess that the first picking SA team picks local talent maybe 50% of the time, at most?

Can suck it!
Have we ever drafted a Queenslander??

Daniel Stewart was a Vic kid who ended up at Labrador when he was 17 or 18 maybe 19, before going to North Adelaide. Was rookie Gavin Grose from up north?
I was trying to think of this just the other day when I watched Lachie Weller's very impressive highlights. All I could come up with was Stewart and Logan after he was delisted by Brisbane but I don't think either of those really count.

Tommy's from Darwin, which means we have never taken a Queenslander at the national draft. Wonder if we have any recruiting guys up there or just all that money poured into junior development hasn't worked yet or the academy set up sees the good ones snaffled up quickly.
