just thought after 7 rounds of the vfl id let you all know (especially arch, mantis, dutchy and the others away from victoria) how the young blokes are going, and how they are coming on
DRAFT PICKS
James Davies - there was a lot of hype about this kid, and so far he has lived up to it, played most of the season on a half back flank and has looked the good, a great kick, plays smart and is quick, he just takes the ball and runs with it. definatly looks a talent and im sure we will see a lot more of him in the years to come
Ted Richards - this guy is amazing, can play key forward or key back and does it very well. has taken some outstanding contested marks. handles pressure well and has very, very good skills. he needs to build up a bit but despite his small build he gets in and gets the hard ball which for a key position player is very rare
Sam Hunt - still at school and only just turned 18 so has a lot of development to do. played mostly at full back but has gone forward in the last two games. very good build but still has the commitment to play school footy for essendon grammar which is taking a bit out of him so i dont think he has played to his full ability as of yet
Jordan Bannister - played on the wing and up forward. takes a strong mark and runs pretty hard. he is getting better every week has a lot of ability
Marc Bullen - has been really good, another one who is getting better every week. rotates onto the ball and constantly getting the ball out of the middle and driving it forward. brett ratten style player who runs all day and is good around the clearances. good skills and handy infront of goals
Michael Davis - had a couple of injuries and is only now getting back to full fitness, capable of kicking a crumb goal aswell as going onto the ball and providing run, probably needs a few more games
ROOKIES
well we have already seen pev step up to the seniors, which leaves 3
David Johnson - im sure most of you would have seen him play, brother of mark and shares similar qualities. can play anywhere on the ground, forward, back or through the midfield
takes a great pack mark and puts his body in constantly, one to watch for
Adam Switala - another who was at the club last year and has looked to improved, played all year on a half back flank and given plenty of drive, has for some reason been kicking right foot all year, which is weird considering he is a left footer
Marcus Kenny - hasnt played a game for about 6 weeks due to injury, capable of playing in the ruck or key forward and snagging a few goals
TOP UP's
Ben Goddard - tiny build but you wouldnt know it by seeing him play, is really hard at it and has done the job on some good players. this week he went forward and kicked 6, has a great long kick and safe hands
James Podsiadly - was a rookie last year and has stepped up this year, playing in the ruck or key position, last week was sensational at full back and had opponents moved off him. great leap and improving skills and footy smarts
Josh Mahony - ex pie and dog, i cant speak highly enough of him, kicked a lot of goals and keeps getting the footy, cant believe he isnt playing afl footy, hopfully he will be a bomber in 2002
Ken Hall - a tassie kid, thumping kick and strong build, plays on a wing or half back and possibly one to look for in a few years time
there are a few other top ups who have played the odd game that i wont go into, one kid Sean Denham is getting plenty of the ball, dont know where we got him from but he looks really good
reserves play box hill on sunday at windy hill, hopfully you will all get down there and have a look at these kids for yourself
