Well, they do create a lot of it. Should help, no?

No more than they have done here. They are the middle men, we the consumer create it.

Hope you arent being conned by the latest 'look over here' initiative, FOGO. Who is buying the finished (recycled, reconstituted product) ?

When there is no market, there is no recycling, despite the spin.

Key points:

  • Organic waste processors say they're inundated by contamination
  • There's a national goal for all metro cities to recycle food waste by 2030
  • But recycling experts say much needs to change before that can happen

Its not hard to fix, tell people that if they dont know which bin to put it in, toss it into the garbage bin.

Problem then is the virtue signallers cant hide behind the tonnes of recycling diverted from landfill, as Councils do now.

Sorting rubbish from FOGO or any recyclables adds cost & the crap then going to landfill is costing more.

what a rubbish concept.

How hard is it to give your food waste to a local dog owner or have a compost/ dig a hole in your back yard

Having to truck food waste around the city, turn it into compost or heat the crap out of it, so the gas is extracted only to have a dead compost which is mixed with cement waste and dumped to avoid land fill (mixing cement and organic waste is a "man made product" thus isn't considered landfill despite having no benefit to the soil.

Anyone here have a worm farm? I've being doing it for years and recently upgraded my can o worms system to the hungry bin. It's a great way of getting rid of food scraps and cardboard and newspapers. Vermicast is one of the best manures there is and when areated with water to make tea is a great foliar spray for plants not only providing nutrients but also protects in the plants from some diseases. plus the worms can be fed to your chooks as treats if you have them.

Had one for years, they're great!

Also handy if you've got kids / nieces / nephews / etc... around, they think they're fascinating.

If you've got any form of outdoor space (e.g. apartment balcony) that isn't in direct sunlight you have space for a small worm farm.
