Does Chadd play the next Shield game (starts Thursday) if he's in the Aus XIII?

Understatement time; our attack will miss him. Mennie has been great but Worrall has been inconsistent, Richardson just ok in Perth and Zampa has been poor. Don't see another spinner on the immediate four day horizon.

Hopefully Bird is 12th man in which case I think Sayers will get flown back for the game. We're kind of stuffed without him apart from the fact we're playing Tassie.

The two unselected bowlers will play the Shield game, as has always been the case. A Queenslander who hasn't been picked in their squad will be the sub fielder if required

Doesn't that only happen though once the game has started? What happens if Starc injures himself in the warmup, they'd have to play Mark Steketee or some other Queenslander who happens to be at the game.

No, they'd fly Bird up and allow Tassie to replace him.

Timing is tricky with the test and Shield game starting on the same day.

They might want to release Sayers to play but does he need to stay up there until the test match starts in case Cummins treads on a cricket ball in the warm up?

Could Sayers be subbed in for Days 2-4 of the Shield game? Was mentioned above that that has happened before.

Sayers is a confirmed out :(. Hopefully just means he's on ice for the 2nd test, at least he's only missing the Tassie match :p

If Sayers and Bird both miss they basically cancel each other out. I think Bird is superior but only just.

Really need Worrall to find some form now.

Kelvin Smith and Alex Ross in.
John Dalton and Tom Cooper out.

Simple.
Reckon they'll give this line up one more game.

Long break after this match so if we fail again they'll ring in some changes for the second half of the season.

Hasn’t Kelvin Smith been given enough chances without ever really looking like making it at shield level? Dalton has shown more already, hopefully they back him for a while longer.

Not fussed either way with Cooper vs Ross.

Smith did get a bunch of chances but is still only 23. Played early and possibly wasn't quite ready. Another couple of years of maturity and it might be different. Certainly dominating at lower levels.

If Dalton misses out this game I can see them bringing Smith in after the BBL. Same deal as Smith really really - they've given Dalton a decent taste. He's shown skill but probably found some areas of his game got exposed. Go back and tighten things up.

So going to re-start the shield without Carey, Head, Zampa, Richardson and Ferguson, great.

Would guess Nielsen, Ross and Kelvin Smith will come in and probably David Grant and possibly Daniel Drew.
Would guess Nielson for Carey, Ross for Head and yeah, probably Smith for Ferg.

Andrews would be a chance to play as a spinner though, right?

I reckon we'd go four quicks instead of a spinner. Just don't think Andrews or Cormack would penetrate enough at that level. More white ball bowlers. Maybe Valente as fourth seamer? Decent lower order bat too. Cooper and Smith bowl part-time offies.

Has anyone heard how bad Ferguson's hamstring is?

Weatherald
Dalton
Smith
Lehmann
Cooper (gets another reprieve)
Ross
Nielsen
Valente
Mennie
Sayers
Worrall

What about that Winter bloke who’s been scoring runs in the futures league?

Bowling attack needs some variety as well.

Future's league team just got bowled out for 89

Possibly having some trouble adjusting to the Duke...
