SA have been known to falter under pressure long before Botha came along
I'll give him credit for improving us but you look at the results ( especially shield games AFTER christmas ) the last 3 seasons.

Deadset BIBLICAL " close-but-no-cigar " results
Teams hanging on by 1 wicket like 3 shield games in a row to kill off our season and shit

That rests on the captain

At least we were in a position to do something with our season before this year.

Klinger left primarily because SA weren't going to play him in the 50 over comp.

Cooper too, I'd say.

What I don't understand is how Cooper can play right now (as an Australian) yet Cosgrove is supposedly playing as an Englishman.
And for that matter why wasn't Cosgrove counted as English before the big bash when Botha was also playing?

I really doubt Cosgrove is playing as an Englishman.

I think Botha isn't playing out the season because SA had decided in December not to renew his contract and now don't see the point playing him.

They are absolutely wrong of course

I had assumed that there was no way they wouldn't play Botha if he was available but your suggestion makes way too much sense.

Completely mad though

It's the SACA. Enough said. Is Ian McLachlan still there ? If so what does he do ?

I'm yet to see any convincing source confirm that Mark Cosgrove, mid-season, has had his status changed from being an Australian player to that of an overseas player. From next season, yes, Cosgrove will be playing as an overseas player. But I've got no reason to believe that change has already happened

This is my exact thoughts. I would think this would be happening next season.

Definitely has not changed mid season, from next season he is classified as an overseas player.

The evidence backs your view. Though it will be interesting since Cooper should be an overseas player next season.

People only think otherwise because nobody really understands why Botha isn't playing out the season

Can someone explain to me how Cosgrove, born and bred in Australia as I understand it, can possibly be classed as an overseas player?

English mother (I think), so to go over and play county cricket he has to have an english passport so he is going to utilise this but a Sheffield Shield team is only allowed one player who is considered overseas e.g. Michael Hogan
