So Hughes isnt playing in the final test in South Africa, is he back in SA to get ready for the shield game? We need to win the game!

Even if we win the rights to host the final we have to play at Gliderol because of a Rolling Stones concert at Adelaide Oval.

Whose dumb arse decision was this? Surely CA would have temp booked the ground incase SA are in a position to host the final. Or is it the SANFL trying to destroy SA cricket before they even play footy at the oval?

Part of the agreement to upgrade Adelaide Oval was that it was a trade off and that as the main - venue in town, cricket lost its sole access for the six months - without that trade off it probably didn't get up.

I think its dumb they are getting screwed out of their own ground. Why would cricket agree to the terms to loose access to their ground. It didnt concern them if AFL went there or not. Im glad footy has gone there, but feel sorry for cricket cause I think in 5yrs time they will get 2mths of a pitch in the ground and thats it.

Only one reason my friend - $$$$$, The MCC makes more out of AFL than cricket by a gazillion - that's why we have drop in wickets - no other reason.

Yeah its sad. selling out for money, but I guess the SACA arent the first to do so, and sure as sh!t wont be the last either.

RedBACCS undefeated and top of the table after six games, and a loss and two draws since then. Unlucky not to win in the drawn games, but need to take your chances when they present themselves. Need to have a strong win (with first innings points) against Tassie in Hobart, and hope that WA vs. NSW ends in a draw, to finish top of the table and ensure a home final. Would be a sad irony if we did get the home final and have to play at bloody Gliderol Stadium though.

Team for next week on a probable good pace deck (green):

Hughes
Raphael
Klinger
Cooper
Ferguson
McDonald
Ludeman
Mennie
Richardson
Sayers
Putland

Head 12th

Um, Mennie's out for the season dude with a back injury, and who the **** bowls spin in that side? Cooper with his FC average of 57? Trust me, Zampa will play

I think we need to take a risk in this one, and leave Zampa out and go for a 100% pace attack.
I would go: Raphael, Klinger, Hughes, Cooper, Ferguson, McDonald (lucky), Ludeman, Richardson, George, Sayers, Putland

Peter George has been in reasonable form in district cricket, and has done in Hobart before.

edit- forgot Trent Lawford who could come in and strengthen the batting a bit more.

SOUTH Australia has named rookie left-arm tweaker Tom Andrews as the Redbacks’ sole frontline spin option for their crucial final-round Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania this week.

Skipper Johan Botha has been omitted from the match starting in Hobart on Tuesday, pending an appeal against suspension arising from dual code of behaviour breaches.

Botha’s appeal will be heard on Monday morning.

If successful, he will be available for the match but if his contest fails he faces a possible life ban.

Redbacks squad: Tom Andrews, Tom Cooper, Callum Ferguson, Travis Head, Phil Hughes, Michael Klinger, Trent Lawford, Tim Ludeman, Andrew McDonald, Joe Mennie, Gary Putland, Sam Raphael, Kane Richardson, Chadd Sayers.
Will be the 12. SA need at least 2 points from this game to be sure of a spot in the final. Which means we will need a strong batting lineup. So to toss up is between playing a spinner or adding an extra batsmen and batting for two days to ensure FIPs. Head, Ferguson and Cooper can bowl part time spin.

Hopefully in the WA, NSW game its a draw and NSW get the 2 points. Even if QLD get the 6, 2 should be enough to get into the final on quotient.

It's on outright wins, then quotient. So if you get 2 points, NSW 2 points and Queensland win Queensland go top. Given Queensland are playing us, I think it's probably them hosting. If WA win, they stay top.

SOUTH Australian captain Johan Botha has withdrawn his appeal against a one-match ban for ball tampering and will miss the Redbacks’ crucial Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania starting on Tuesday.

Cricket Australia on Friday suspended Botha under their code of behaviour for the final-round match, which will determine whether SA reach the final for the first time since their 1995-96 win.

Botha admitted to ball tampering last week but was to appeal the ban at a hearing in Adelaide on Monday, before deciding on Sunday to cop his punishment on the chin.

The former South African international was cited on two separate code of behaviour breaches from SA’s draw against NSW last week, after he was also reprimanded for using “obscene, offensive and insulting” language during NSW’s first innings.

However, it’s the more serious offence of tampering with the condition of the ball that he’s been suspended for.

Botha’s actions were found to be contrary to the spirit of the game, harmful to the interests of cricket and bringing the game into disrepute.

South Australia are locked on 26 competition points along with Western Australia and NSW heading into the final round, and will want to beat the Tigers in Hobart to put their berth in the Shield final beyond doubt.

A loss or draw would take destiny out of their hands, with the Warriors and Blues facing each other in Canberra and Queensland also an outside chance if they beat Victoria.

So life ban?

Where to next for the Redbacks? Two years in a row they have been one wicket away from the final (WA last season, NSW this season). The thing is that most of the guys had reasonable levels from an individual point of view, albeit stats probably boosted from playing at Adelaide Oval. Can't see the need for recruitment for next season to be honest, although my sneaking suspicion thinks is that we will get Aaron Finch. Say thanks to Botha and see him off, no need to have a ball tampering whinger captaining our team, captaincy was good though. Let McDonald captain I say, Hughes has a terrible track record already captaining Adelaide Strikers to this.

Team for next year: Klinger, Hughes, Head, Cooper, Ferguson, McDonald, Ludeman, Richardson, Mennie, Sayers, Zampa

I would make Cooper captain. He's at a stage where he seems to know his game well, has leadership qualities and is a smart captain. and if you don't want Putland, we'll take him off your hands :D

Like the last three years, our success depends on whether Putland is healthy or not. A full season from him (not a month here, and a month there) will go a long way to getting us in that final.

Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that Joe Mennie will be lured interstate.
