Ludemann, Agar, Raphael, Gregory miss out. Probably fair enough.

Also rookie deal for Lloyd Pope which is good to see.

Cooper reinstated. Had a good season. Nick Winter killed it at grade and Futures, also got a contract.

Dalton, Grant and Nielsen upgraded.

All petty good calls IMO. Great to see plenty of locals too.

It's our year :)

One day squad named. No internationals (usually not a factor for us haha) - Travis Head, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson miss.

Batters - Weatherald, Smith, Ferguson (c), Cooper, Lehmann, Ross

WK - Carey

Allrounder - Valente

Quicks - Mennie, Sayers, Worrall, Winter

Spinners - Andrews, Cormack

Decent enough squad though probably lacks a proven spinner.

Sayers under an injury cloud I believe.

Also youngsters Grant, Pengelley and Nielsen have been picked in the CA team.

4. Lehmann
5. Cooper
6. Ross
7. Valente
8. Mennie

Possibly swap Carey with Cooper

Can't recall Worrall playing any one day games.

Round 1 Shield Team Prediction:
1. Jake Weatherald
2. Tom Cooper
3. Callum Ferguson
4. Travis Head
5. Jake Lehmann
6. Alex Ross
7. Alex Carey
8. Joe Mennie
9. Adam Zampa
10. Kane Richardson
11. Chadd Sayers

We have some good young batsmen coming through with Dalton, Page and Smith.

Nielsen also looks good to take the reins if Carey gets the nod in the Ashes.

Sick of us playing quicks that are not gonna be anything, and lack any real weapons. Looking at you Benton, Worrall, Grant and Winter.

Andrews looks a good back up spinner come the time when Zamps gets the call up to the ODI team or goes down with an injury.

I like Valente but at the moment he is just a List A player. Shows some promise with both bat and ball but needs to really clamp down on one of them and make a spot his own. Im tipping him to become a good no.6, similar to Hilton Cartwright. As in he can bat very well at 6 and can contribute with some more than handy mediums should it be required to give the frontline bowlers a rest.

Bit tough on Worrall. Had some injuries last season but still took 26 wickets at 27. Had 44 wickets at 26 the season before. Will be interesting to see which 3 quicks they go with when all are fit.

Richardson finally got a decent run with injury last season and was good. Can see us playing 4 quicks at times.

Will be interesting what they do with the batting. Play it safe with Cooper at the top of the order? Or go with youngster Dalton?

Might be that both play and Ross gets squeezed out.

Surely Dalton doesn't get dropped off his two very decent showings last year? And you talk about Valente being List A only but play Ross who averages less than 30 from much more game time?

So Head, Richardson and Zampa back, going to be a couple of tough selection calls.

I'd probably go with Head in for Valente, Zampa for Andrews and Richardson for Worrall. Maybe open with Head and drop Carey down the order.

Head
Weatherald
Ferguson
Cooper
Ross
Lehmann
Carey
Zampa
Mennie
Richardson
Sayers

Valente ahead of Ross maybe?

Yeah I think so.

Weatherald, Carey, Head, Ferguson, Cooper, Lehmann, Valente, Zampa, Mennie, Richardson, Sayers

So is it 2nd (SA) vs 3rd (Vic) in the elimination final on Thursday, then the winner plays 1st (WA) on Saturday?

We'll wait and see on today's games. We can still get knocked out by CA XI or Tassie if they get a 2BP win

Shield game starts Friday :)

Pink ball test vs a full strength NSW team . Do we always cop this fixture?

Well... full strength minus their best batsman haha.

Reckon this will be the Redbacks XI:
Weatherald
Dalton
Ferguson
Head
Cooper
Lehmann
Carey
Mennie
Zampa
Sayers
Worrall

Richardson and Ross unlucky to miss out

I'd honestly drop Cooper for Valente for the upcoming match. Get Carey in at 6 and give him a real chance to get a score on the board, Valente is probably a better batsman than Cooper as well. Don't really need the extra bowling option but could come in handy on a flat MCG.
