With the normal apologies (sung to "I was only 19")

Mum and Dad and Jenny saw the game from the great southern stand
…..It was a long way on the train.
The bombers were the first team out and it was me who flew the flag,
We sung the club-song and the anthem before the game.

But the boys they were hard done by as they fought it on the “G”
Hamill was a mongrel what he did with his right knee
There were fifty seven free kicks that the umpire didn’t see

I was only thirteen.


A 2 hour operation when each kick could be the last one for the year
….It was a war within itself.
But the bombers let their mates down and the blues dusted us off
I just closed my eyes and thought about something else.

Then someone yelled out “KICK IT”
And the bloke behind me swore.
It felt like 15 hours then that god almighty roar
And the bombers kicked behinds the day that Kouta kicked the moon

God help us….

.
We were Premiers in June.

And I can still see grandma lining up for her grandfinal seats
In a 48 hour sleep out in the town.
And I can still see Grandma lying screaming on the footpath
‘till the police came and killed the bloody row.

And the bomber’s legends never mention how choking makes you feel
And the stories dogs supporters told me never seemed quite real
I walk ‘round like a zombie, can’t even eat a meal

God Help me……

I was only thirteen.

And can you tell me doctor why I still can’t get to sleep ?
And why the channel seven theme song chills me to my feet?
And what’s this rash that comes and goes won’t you tell me what it means ?
