Lol...Betts and Monfries above Knights ya rite.

Knights v Monfries

Knights v Betts

Also with Betts gotta take into account the fact he is a loose headcase and will probably pull a Lovett at some point, but it doesn't really matter as he is miles behind anyway.

Your stats don't impress me, they only tell half the story if that in the real world of genuine footy banter. Either make a genuine case based on observations/opinions or don't bother. The gap between 10, 12 and 13 is hardly huge, all very good players.

Also with Betts gotta take into account the fact he is a loose headcase and will probably pull a Lovett at some point, but it doesn't really matter as he is miles behind anyway.

Are players drafted to be good blokes or play footy? This isn't the 2004 draft re-done based on who is the best role model / citizen. Betts is a long way off being compared to a alleged rapist. Stupid comment.

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

I would be pretty worried if Monfries was still top 10. Inconsistent, fairly slow small forward who doesn't kick bags. TBH he's not a lock for our best 22, and our forward line is right up in the air. Sherman's done more, Knights easily more, Van Berlo more.

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

If redone today, I would say:

1. Lance Franklin
2. Jarryd Roughead
3. Brett Deledio
4. Ryan Griffen
5. Travis Cloke
6. Mark Lecras
7. Jordan Lewis
8. Nathan Van Berlo
9. Brett Prismall
10. Chris Knights
11. Daniel Pratt
12. Tom Williams
13. Justin Sherman
14. Richard Tambling
15. Matthew Bate
16. Angus Monfries
17. Matt Rosa
18. Nathan Ablett
19. Thomas Murphy
20. Cameron Wood
21. Mitch Morton
22. Henry Slattery
23. Simon Taylor
24. Jesse Smith (a punt)
If the draft was redone today I doubt anyone would pick a player that doesnt want to play afl

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

10. Matthew Egan ( based on ’07 form, would have been a lot higher if it weren’t for his foot)
11. Justin Sherman
12. Richard Tambling
13. Mitch Morton
14. Angus Monfries

You're kidding yourself by not having Cloke in the top 15.

If you're going to give Egan a high spot for just one year, then Cloke has to be on your list owing to his strong 2007. He won our B&F, best finals players, and kicked 39 goals.

He's had a better career that the last five names here.

I think you're just being biased, which is a shame.

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

1. Franklin
2. Roughead
3. Deledio
4. Cloke
5. Le Cras
6. Lewis
7. Knights
8. Griffen
9. Tambling
10. Sherman
11. Morton
12. Van Berlo
13. Wood
14. Williams
15. Gibson
16. Monfries
17. Young
18. Prismall
19. Pratt
20. Polo

Griffen has a lot of potential but hasn't really done anything to warrant being top 5 as yet. Knights, Lewis, LeCras and Cloke have all shown more.

Sorry completely forgot about Cloke.

He has now been included;)

But hasn't he signalled he's intentions to attempt a return? If a player of N.Ablett's calboure was available (premiership key forward), I think clubs would take a punt on him ahead of other players around that area, such as Slattery, S.Taylor etc., even if it is an uncertain selection.

Griffen gets judged harshly because people expect so much. He averaged over 22 disposals this season, runs with the ball uses it well and has a very good finals record

But would you say he has been better than Knights, Lewis or LeCras? I wouldn't.

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

Isn't the point of the thread to draft them knowing what we know now? I'd pick Griffen over Knights, Lewis or LeCras.

Really? I'd definitely take Knights and Lecras ahead of Griffin.
Lewis has also been comfortably better than Griffin over the journey (and Knights). Knowing what we know now, and not going on potential, Griffin would be behind all 3.

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

Knights and Lecras you could make a case for but lewis no.
Not counting "potential" in the equation, Lewis is easily ahead of Griffin. Look at the stats, Lewis beats him in basically every category accept goals (both under 1.0 goal per game)

Griffin is too inconsistent, showing glimpses one week but not delivering the next. I hope for the doggies sake he can contribute every week. Then maybe he'll be close to Lewey.

Yes I agree but his attitude when he walked away would put a lot of clubs off. Geelong tried everything to keep him and he still left and with a lot of clubs looking at a players attitude and personality I personally think that Ablett would slide and be picked up by a club willing to take a gamble

Re: 2004 Draft Re-Done

This goes to show how overrated draft picks are. five years down the track, many believe that someone like Van Berlo is one of the 10 best from this draft, how many would contemplate trading him for a top 10 pick. I'm not meaning to single out Van Berlo, so don't jump down my throat about his abilities, just using him as as example. Nearly everybody seems to assume that their top 10 picks from this years draft are going to be vastly superior to Van Berlo, but chances are they are not.
