He's looking beastly. Hope he gets up because he's got gun potential. Will be good to watch.

Why are people including Barlow and Crameri?

They were both in the Rookie Draft.

FWIW:

My top 10 2009 Draft picks born in 1991.

01 Nathan Fyfe.
02 Dustin Martin.
03 Jack Trengove.
04 Mitchell Duncan.
05 Ryan Bastinac.
06 Ben Cunnington.
07 Sam Reid.
08 Tom Scully.
09 Allen Christensen.
10 Daniel Talia.

Melksham, Butcher, Rohan, Harwood, Vardy, Carlisle, Menzel and Tapscott a bit stiff.

Menzel > Jack Trengove

Cunnington & Bastinac are overrated! ;)

just wondering if there was any obvious reason why nat fyfe went so late in this draft? he is clearly the no.1 player from this draft and if i recall correctly pre-draft he had a colts grand final performance of something like 8 goals 34 touches and he had an u/18 championships where he kicked 4 against vic metro and was very good throughout the tournament. was there some sort of an injury or attitude/homesickness concern? because i cannot work out for the life of me how this bloke was passed on 19 times...

Basti has more class than people give him credit for. Was close to BOG last week.

From what I understand he played as a high HF in junior ranks so clubs probably didn't know what his capabilities as midfielder were? I think even Freo would be shocked at the sort of player he's turned into.

i tend to break it down and group players into smls med talls. and player type. generally speaking each group has a different time frame to reach potential.
only smls from the 09 crop should be clicking and thats just 3 yrs.

just my opinion but what talls like carlisle reid and talia are producing after just 3 yrs means they are in front of all others.
but at the end of the day it is way too early to be judging just how good anyone is against their draft peers after just 3 yrs.

what we can judge with certainty is weather players belong at the level and at this stage there would be less than a handful in the top 40 who you would put a line thru.in fact id say theres only three or 4 players in the top 50 that are no longer on a list.

obviously atm some are in front of others but that doesnt mean much until the whole draft reaches maturity.

From my teams selections, we got a steal in Carlisle but paid overs for Melksham.

Carlisle --> Melksham.

Bobby's not quite got his game locked and loaded (sorry Terry Wallace) which is some scary shit whereas Melksham's almost hit his best.

Come to think of it, Carlisle and Rookie Draft pick Stewart Crameri have been the 2 biggest positives for mine for the Dons.

Fyfe and martin have a decent lead over duncan and trengrove imo.

Agree Duncan is a good player and Trengrove looked good initially but Fyfe and Martin are easily a level above.

I would say top 3:

1. Martin
2. Carslile
3. Fyfe

I rate Martin over Fyfe because they win similar ball and I would always take the brute strength goal kicking machine I think Martin will become over Fyfe who is also a jet. Would take Carslile ahead of Fyfe though...12 yr FB right there. Lucky Essendon got him because Melksham on the other hand is rubbish.

I'd say that out of all the Essendon selections based on draft picks, Melksham's been the biggest disappointment.

Howlett or Crameri, with the exception of Heath Hocking, have the potential to be the Bombers' best rookie pick since Mark Johnson.

Essendon could've smashed the 2009 draft had they not made some bizarre pick trades beforehand.

Still did really well though.

Sum total of our trades:
Effectively traded Lovett for Mark Williams and Carlisle pick.

Sure Williams is LOL worthy, but we still come out of that trade massive winners. That and our PSD/Rookie picks are the reason we did well that draft.

Think you're well and truly under selling Melksham. Won't be a Fyfe, but think he will be a very very good footballer. Biggest issue right now is he is best on the inside and there is a long list of guys (rightfully) ahead of him. Remember, its been only 3 years. Plenty of players (even mids) take longer. Have a look at his team mates Myers, Winders and Watson.
Personally, I've been pretty disappointed with Long's hamstrings.

And the rumours go we would have taken Carlisle with #16 instead of #24 if we hadn't downgraded it anyway.
