Redo the 2009 draft.

1. Fyfe - Once Ablett has retired, Fyfe in my opinion will be the best player in the comp. If he kicked straight, he would have single handedly won Fremantle a premiership last year. Massive duh for the number one spot.

2-6. Barlow/Gunston/Talia/Martin/Carlisle. I just can't split these five. Barlow is the most consistent midfielder in a top 2-3 side and was favourite to win a brownlow before he broke his leg. Gunston was Hawthorns best finals player last year, probably should have won a norm smith and has been our best forward since round 20 last year. Talia and Carlisle are blue chip KPDs and should win many AAs between them over the next decade. Martin on his day is better than 99% of players in the competition, but is well below Fyfe and on par with these 4 because he is too erratic with his performances.

I know it's a ranking thread, but I can't split them. With the benefit of hindsight, and if I was recruiting for Hawthorn, I'd put their names in a hat and let luck do the rest.

7. Stratton - Besides Gibson, he has been our most consistent defender since his debut. Rarely plays worse than a 7/10 and will end up playing CHB for us.

8. Cunnington - Based on this years form I reckon he'll end up being a top 3 from this years draft, but how do we know it isn't just a brief spike in form? I don't think it is, so if i redo this in 12 months I imagine he'd be quite a bit higher.

9. Jetta - Good footballer, better athlete, if he can learn to deal with a tag he should be one of the best HF flankers in the league.

10. Duncan - Ugh. Gives me the shits how good he is. Every time he plays the Hawks I walk away thinking he's towelled us up.

11. Crameri - We're seeing now how important he was for Essendons forward structure, and is already the Dogs best forward. Lock him in for 45+ goals this year.

This year he has been. Career - no.

A player like Carlisle has been better but he is really struggling this year.

Carlisle had half a good year and I'd debate just how good that half a year was (ie good but not AA good like some people will tell you).

Cunnington's 2013 was pretty bloody useful as well. As was his finish to 2012.

Lol Black, lol cunnington, lol bastinac
Deluded north fans
Hilarious post and to top it off coming from a carlton supporter.
Based on this year Cunnington would be carlton's best midfielder.
Black and bastinac whilst they havn't set the world on fire are tracking okay.
Continue to underrate Cunnington at your own peril. He is already starting to show more consistency and value than Dustin Martin.

Also have to laugh at how highly rated Jetta is/was on here.

Happy with Talia from this draft but man dunno how Fyfe slipped to 20. Unbelievable performance today with 34 touches (18 contested) 2 goals

He was a project player. Came into the league as a skinny medium forward. His overhead marking was always impressive but I doubt even the Freo recruiters would've predicted he'd become a contested ball winning machine.

Lets not forget he wasn't 190cm tall, his frame grew a lot. Can't really predict that and even if you could it can sometimes be a bad thing effecting players coordination, speed and agility.

An easy question to sort people who know the first thing about footy from the rest is to ask them their opinion of Ben Cunnington.

i remember asking the north board at the beginning of the year who was more likely to have a break out year between Cunnington and Bastinac. Most kangas fans said Bastinac, but i went with Cunnington anyway. Feel justified.

Big jump in - he can't be picked in front of Cunnington.
i thought about that, but i think if black can play 22 games a year and kick 40 goals a season its of more value in todays low scoring rolling maul contests than a tough inside midfielder. Just my 2c anyway you see a lot more than i do.

Didn't include mature-agers so no Barlow and Crameri. Would think Menzel, Rohan and Morabito would make the list if it wasn't for serious injuries. Not a great draft IMO though I suppose there's still time.

At least Geelong's draft is keeping some surgeons in business. We have 5 guys still on our list from this draft and 4 of them are yet to play a competitive match at any level this year. Since this draft geelong has played 108 afl matches meaning Menzel, Vardy and Cowan could've played up to 342 games between them up until now. Yet at both vfl and afl level they've in total combined for 130 games meaning they're fit to play about 38% of the time. Actually since the end of 2011 they've played a combined 32 games at either vfl or afl level out of a possible 174 meaning they've missed over 80% of possible matches through injury.

That's because most North fans would feel 2013 was Cunners' breakout year.

Melksham has finally started to play good footy. Not sure if worth ten when you look back but has started to come good.

Has gone backward in 2014 - you would be doing well to find an essendon supporter that wants him running out V the Crows this week.

Lost all confidence and is now just a turn over merchant.
