Carlisle > Cunnington. No disrespect to Cunnington, but as everyone has explained and will continue to explain a versatile KPP is worth more, especially a very good one. Cunnington is a good midfielder but you would not consider him elite, which is what he would have to be to be considered a worthy earlier pick than Carlisle.

Cunners is an elite clearance player having a very good year yet again - he has polled coaches votes in half the games he has played in and sits just outside the top 10.

He is 2nd for clearances - averaging 8.2 a game, 4th in Centre clearances - behind only Danger, Ablett and Shiel.

I will take elite at something over being tall.

Defence: Really strong and well balanced defence full of some of the best key backs and some of the best half back flankers in the comp.

Midfield: What a midfield this would be! While the depth isn't quite there for the positions, to have Martin, Fyfe and Cunnington at the coal face with Gawn hitting it down to them would make this quite the formidable midfield! Does lack some outside pace and talent but with face inside/out talent don't think that matters.

Forwards: Nost definitely the weakest point of the team with the flankers made up of more wingers and traditional flankers and the kp talent really lacking. Are missing that centrepiece to really make it great. However having Gunstan and Menzel as third and fourth talls does make it okay depth wise.

Overall this team would be the envy of the comp. minus the gun fwd which I feel the addition of Gunstan and Menzel definitely dilutes this team would be aiming for a top 2 finish in the current year. They are the right age demographic to really dominate games and the defence and midfield rival or better any in the afl.

The rest? You may want to scroll back and look at the ratings. Alot of non North rate Cunners higher. The only way you could pick Carlisle ahead is in the hope he improves a lot on what he has produced. Career to date its not close.

I think Fyfe, Martin, Gawn, Talia and Scully are the clear top five. After that, Gunston, Cunnington, Carlisle, Pittard and Stratton would round out my top ten. Then youve got a whole host of other players who are carving out careers like Duncan, Picken, Menzel, Colyer, Sheppard, Menzel, Melkshem etc

I am with you regarding Gawn, one outstanding year doesnt out do 5 good ones.

But you're on you own with Talia, the guy is a deadset gun, an A grade KPD, Cunners is just an an average midfielder thats elite at clearances!

Gawn v Scully was tough.
I went Scully on more seasons where he has been at the top of his game.

If he can keep the best forwards like Franklin, Lynch etc goal less or lock them out of the game he is just as valuable as those forwards he takes out of the game.

He is one of the best clearance players in the comp. The two years we made the prelim he came 1st and 2nd in our B&F. The 2nd was behind the best ruckmen in the comp that year. His clearance work buts him well above BOG average.
