Collingwood screaming out for elite key forwards and you’d go this.

Where'd you put the Kings?

Super strong draft, when compiling the list I was thinking of how the players would preform 2022 and beyond and not what they've achieved up until this point.

1. Sam Walsh
2. Ben King
3. Max King
4. Bailey Smith
5. Connor Rozee
6. Tarryn Thomas
7. Jack Lukosius
8. Zak Butters
9. Isaac Quaynor
10. Nick Hind
11. James Rowbottom
12. Izak Rankine
13. Jacob Koschitzke
13. Xavier Duursma
14. Nick Blakey

After this it gets really blurry for me so I won't make any judgements
Hard to rate Rankine on available evidence. Burst onto the scene, but hasn't show a lot since then. Has a heap of talent though, just doesn't apply it often enough.

Max and Ben King are the two most valuable commodities out of the draft. Would be 1 and 2.
If I was recruiting for Collingwood, I'd still go Walsh 1st. Kings still have a long way to go. They will still need to rely on a strong midfield who can deliver the ball to them. If the Pies had Walsh and Smith winning the ball and delivering it to the forward line, they would make Cox and Mihoceh look great.

We lost a GF by a kick without a top key forward. JDG (48 goals), Hoskin-Elliot (42 goals), Thomas (38 goals), Stephensen (38 goals), Mihocek kicked about 2 goals a game making his debut halfway through the season and Cox (25 goals).

Grundy and Sidebotton won our B&F. Pendlebury, Sier, Treloar played well as midfielders.

Yeah, a key position forward would be nice, but useless unless you have a very strong midfield. And we are now re-building the midfield with Sidebottom slowing down, Pendles getting on, trading out Treloar.

So Walsh has already shown he is a superstar midfielder. Bailey Smith, IMO is just behind him. If we had them both, our forward line will be functioning alot better.

Tarry Thomas all day long.

You can tag Walsh.

You can’t tag a freakish talent like Thomas that not only racks up 20 creative possessions but he can also go forward and kick multiple goals.

No one has ever bothered to tag Thomas. He’s played 6 weeks of consistent good football.

And the last time Tarryn Thomas got tagged was??

I find that hard to believe. You already have one of the best midfields with Pendlebury, De Goey, Sidebottom and Adams (being fed by Grundy) and they aren’t making those two look great, so I don’t see why Walsh and Smith would.

Sidebottom is a shell of himself. Pendlebury has slowed considerably. Adams is important to the midfield but always injured and sometimes his disposal lets him down. JDG has been better the last few weeks. We struggle to get clearances, and the quick disposal into the forward line is ordinary.
So, we need far more pace, a clearance specialist and better disposal.

As I mentioned earlier, the midfield was humming in 2018 when Sidebottom and Grundy were joint B&F winners, Pendles was still under 30 and playing as an All-Australian, Treloar was in the team and Sier came in and performed strongly with clearances. And our forward line had 4 players who pretty much kicked 40 goals each.

3 years later and Sier can't get a game, Sidey has been terrible and getting caught, Pendles is 33 and has slowed down, Adams is always injured and there in no Treloar. We need to re-build that midfield with quality. Walsh and Smith would be our best 2 midfielders by far!

Good job for posting a list. I like the top 2. Lukosius is a bit high for me. He's a beautiful kick but he often goes for too much and turns it over too much for me. Ben King ahead if Max King is correct. My biggest issue is Nick Blakey. I don't think he even belongs in the top 15. He is a horrendous kick with a horrendous ball drop matched with not much coordination for mine. And his hunched back probably put him closer to a 6'2 than a 6'5 lol.

Max King showed against West Coast he’s not only ahead of Ben but number 1.

Read above. I've told you 2 things that Ben has shown to be better than Max at. Now what is max better than Ben at?

I don't disagree with you that Ben is ahead for now but it's not as clear as some suggest given Ben has more experience.

In fact, if you compare them based on their first two seasons (Remember max did his ACL and missed his first year) Max is doing quite well.

Stats (first two seasons in AFL)Max King (35* games)Ben King (31 games)Nick Riewoldt (28 games)Lance Franklin (34 games)Tom Hawkins (19 games)Harry McKay (15 games)
Goals total (per game average)52 (1.49)42 (1.35)23 (0.82)52 (1.52)25 (1.31)24 (1.6)
Behinds total (per game average)46 (1.31)29 (0.93)20 (0.71)22 (0.64)15 (0.78)13 (0.86)
Marks total (per game average)134 (3.83)96 (3.09)204 (7.28)128 (3.76)84 (4.42)77 (5.13)
Contested Marks (per game average)72 (2.06)28 (0.90)61 (2.17)16 (0.47)23 (1.21)23 (1.53)

Just another way to look at it.

Bit rich to use Max's 21 yr old stats vs Ben's 19 yr old stats though...
