Recruiters always play their cards close to their chest & different guys have different thoughts which is only natural. However the basic thoughts indicate a leader, followed by a group of 3, followed by a group of 6-8, then the rest. Sheed & dunstan are in the group joined by 4-6 others.
However be aware that they will create a preliminary list & then trawl through games & wait for DC to test their theories about certain players to see whether their initial thoughts (after the carnival) are correct. Speed & kicking efficiency are the 2 tests that can make or break a kid at DC.

So we let Sheed know to shank a few in the kick test and to not go so hard in the sprints.
Its not like he's not going to get drafted but we don't want him to go before our pick.
Interesting this draft could be compromised in another way, Adelaide has lost its picks already and odds on Essendon won't have any early picks this year either. Norths look to have committed to McDonald which looks like costing them their first rounder.
Adelaide and Norths could be before ours and they won't get who we are keen on, other sides needs KP's which means come our first pick a very good (top 5) mid will still be available.![]()
Interesting that according to an AFL "guru" the Larke medallist ends up at end 1st round. Do you think Sheed is the best choice?

Also, Bond, do you rate Acres? Would he be around our second pick?
I thought that was odd too... maybe it's just the top 20 talent, not nessicarily in order

Well I posed a similar question to you and you indicated that Sheed's consensus rating is somewhere around 6-12.
Are you indicating Twomey is off the mark or that Dom may not end up worthy of our 1st round (likely single digit) selection?
I am leaning towards him due to being a WA lad but also because he ticks a lot of boxes to what we lack. A bigger inside / outside mid who kicks goals. From the WA U18 he would be the best choice. Is an interstate kid potentially better? Maybe, but at least with a WA player there isn't a go home factor. Sure we don't lose many but it is a factor.
Looking back we drafted Masten at 3 and the crows took Dangerfield at 10 and Cyril went 12.
So I understand your point but don't know the other draftees well enough to make a informed opinion.
In hindsight Masten was still the correct choice. I know several people who knew Dangerfield well as a kid & his development has surprised them somewhat. Rioli was always a flight risk & was never a realistic option.
Don't get me wrong, Sheed is a delightful & very coach able kid & he's as dead set a certainty to play 150 good quality games as anybody in this draft. I just think maybe WC need to look outside of their very conservative view. What would change my thoughts however would be the approach WC take during the draft period. If they take the view that they are still in premiership mode - & they should- then they may just target the players that allows them to draft Sheed.
What will be interesting is Carlton's season from here. They look like being the most active come trade week & I expect some names to be offered that might surprise
I believe Twomey will be proven wrong & IMO there are a couple of kids who are better options for WC than Sheed in that 6-12 bracket
This is a serious issue. He may be local but if he is ranked at approx 17-20 by guru's why would we use pick 7-11?Interesting that according to an AFL "guru" the Larke medallist ends up at end 1st round. Do you think Sheed is the best choice?

Yes well if they offer up someone with a thinking chair i think we should pass..Collingwood also have some 'internal' issues.
Who are you thinking? Lennon, Freeman, Botempelli?

Any ideas? Yarran?
Yes and Billings
You mean one "guru" trying to piece together bits of info from "hangers on" And trust me whilst the top 4 are likely to be the top 4, someone will have Billings at 5 and others will have him at 12. I know someone who thinks Marsh is a Darling type and should go in the 12-15 bracket, whilst another thinks he's a 20-30 pick.
Swann has already advised there will be some changes at Carlton. Don't be surprised if somebody like Gibbs is offered.

Would Yarran be obtainable without using our first round?
If trade week was right now then I think it would be a distinct possibility - however there's a long way to go. What I do believe is WC will find out the answer come years end.
