Geez draft order numbers shit me. Forget 6,forget all that crap.Hes a second year player on a steady improvement graph. He makes mistakes because he's a kid.Playing where he is blokes make mistakes for years and years until they become solid and consistant.
If he couldn't find the footy I'd be worried. If he couldn't kick I'd be worried.if he couldn't win his own ball I'd be worried.if he wasn't improving and growing in confidence I'd be worried.
I'm not worried.

How about his game Vs Melbourne, if that is just a glimpse of his future then we have a good one on our hands.

Gun , bloody good pick at number 6! This bloke is so versatile and he is always in control when he has the ball. It's a size and confidence thing with Reece. He will bust games open off his own boot next year and the year after.

Gun!

As far as the free kicks goes i wasn't refering to the sling last week, although the sling was regretable i know Conca was being held and blocked.
I just think he barrels in a lot without thinking and gives away in the back or to high when applying a tackle to somebody over the ball.
I do agree that he is young and has time on his side and has a good skill base to build upon.
I just don't think at this point in time he is as good or has been as good as people are making out.

Isn't that a good thing?

Shane Tucks been doing that for years, and if Conca turns out to be anywhere near as good as Tucky then he would have had himself a very nice career.

Very good pick by us. He may not be a super star but I don't face palm with the ball in his hands either. This is his 2nd year and will gradually improve. Will be a natural replacement for a midfield player if we lose someone.

Think it's difficult to rate players based on what others are doing at other clubs , as some club's are better than others at developing players. In saying that , of the players drafted in Hardwicks time Martin , Astbury , Griffith , Batchellor and Ellis all look to be better prospects than Reece . RC just doesn't seem to have picked up the tempo as quick as the others , still think he'll be a good player just not a gun .

i also reckon from that drafts top 10 he is on par or better than most of them. i think at the time we were into polec as well and he hasnt done much yet, while being set back bc of injury.

I often struggle to believe the majority on here actually watch us play. He has exceeded all expectation. 28 possessions and 2 goals against Melb this year. Not bad for a 2nd year player...

I would say that so far only Martin has shown more IMO while there is a case to argue Batchelor as well I would say they'd be about even

Haha. I've had this thought too. I know footy is subjective, but some people's opinions really blow me away sometimes.

Conca is tracking great. Of course he is going to have up and down games, has he even played 20 games yet? He won't find any real consistency till around the 50 game mark. But for now, he looks good with ball in hand, he is hard at the footy, tackles well, makes good decisions and is clean. And he is pretty good in traffic too.

He makes mistakes, but so does Cotchin. So do Ablett and Pendles. He will turn it over and make some bad decisions as he is still developing. But you couldn't ask for a whole lot more. Forget who was taken around him, it doesn't matter.

Yep I agree. Heppell and Gaff probably better atm but I don't rate their contested ball anywhere near Conca's. Good inside and out, quick, skillful -will be a good player

Yep...Conca makes a few mistakes but his contected ball is really good
Heppell is just an ordinary/average player....plays easy unaccountable football and his kicking is suspect

Conca is ok. But there's no way he has been better than Batchelor. Different roles for the two but Conca has been allowed to coast more often. Conca also makes stupid decisions. At least one a game. Usually at critical situations, too. When he irons these out he will be far more effective with his 15 possessions. He needs to lift his work rate and tackling in order to become a consistent contributor. He had a great influence on the game against Melbourne. Would like to see him given more responsibility this week and the next.

I'm not sure anyone has bagged the guy , saying he is a dud or anything of the like , the varying opinion seems to be that some have already made a decision that he will/ is a gun whilst others tend to be wanting to see a little more . I think NZ_Tiger probably best summed it up .
Playing a very accountable role, filling in for Lids down back once Post got dropped. Not the pure midfielder I thought I was getting in DreamTeam but he's playing solid football.

Seems to be coming along nicely IMO...overrated by some, underrated by some. I just wish he would stop watching Jackson by turning back for the easy out to the man 20-25 metres behind the play. Take the game on son...looks great when he breaks the lines, and has the skills to make good decisions quickly, and most importantly then, hit the F%#&n target!

Isn't going to ground as much lately either which could be a result of the new sliding rule.

there are not many nos

will he be as good as cotch...no but he doesnt have to be...will he be as good as corey from the cats ...he is already a better kick and has more pace....leys hope he can win as many flags

Every Premiership team needs the unsung workmanlike player who just goes about his business, who links up consistently and safely and who plays honest football. Reece Conca is a required player at the RFC. :thumbsu:

Gaff is a gun and is the better player out of the draft, but he was taken before we picked him.
Heppell, like most of the Essendon side, is a downhill skiier, who hasn't learned any part of a defensive side to his game yet. Conca hasn't stood out because Dimma hasn't allowed him to. He is being taught the defensive side first.
Conca will be a player.

I agree.

Is he out of contract at the end of htis year?

I really like him, can see him becoming a vital part of out rotations in the 1st tier midfield in the next few years.
