Though Conca was huge tonight and really stepped it up a gear when our midfield went missing

i really liked his positioning around the contests, he became dangerous and often hurt the opposition with his skills

one of the best games ive seen him play but its important he stays around this level

Impressive evasion always turns the right way to get out of trouble. Lowers his eyes a lot more these days and picks the right option. Will be a jet. Wont ever get tagged either

Totally agree. Cotchin's kicking is not as elite as some say. His handballing is elite yes, but his footskills are good at best.
Cotchs Kicking isn't too bad for someone with a minimum 3 blokes hanging off him at all times.

But let's not make it another Cotch thread. Conca was fantastic. Repaying the faith the coaches have put in him. Geez it's good to have some midfield depth

Disagree his footskills are absolutely elite he just had an off night.

The contest in the middle towards the end of the game where he beat N Riewoldt to a hard ball was impressive. Not to mention that bullet centering pass.

Only wish he had of converted more because it almost would have been a 10/10. Still 1.3 says he is getting forward and off the leash.

Most stats in footy are useless. The ones we see anyway.
Don't even start me on disposal efficiency.Show me a bloke waving the disposal efficiency stats above his head and i'll show you a football nuffy.
One stat doesn't lie though. Reece Conca- 14 score involvements and 3 assists. That's fantastic.

Haven't seen the game but his disposal sounds like Deledio's by the sounds of it. Deledio has taught them well... at least somebody on our team knows not to freakin bomb the ball into the 50.
I'm waiting for the moment when he does a one hand pickup and kick it lace out to Vickery or Riewoldt and kicks the goal for the assist of the year.

Maric;)

To an extent I think Reece has been able to grow because of the likes of Lids & Cotch etc getting the tags. Up to more recently though it's been glimpses. It's great starting to see him bringing it together for longer periods. Signs of him starting to mature. I just want to see guys like Reece(Griff,Astbury,Hellbig,Etc) in the squad continuing to get games/continuity. Very exciting times, GO TIGES

Seriously how good was he? He's not afraid to hunt the ball and loves to tackle, which Dimma must love.
I've been saying it for the past two years but I think this is the year he'll break out year :D

And the best part of it is when (i think in the 3rd) you saw some redhead charge into a pack head down, pick up the ball and try to just bull his way out, pushing along the player trying to bring him down a few meters at least. Commentators thought it was jackson, but it was conca getting up from the ground when the ump called a ball up.

quick, tough, fearless, smart, elite skills....if he puts it together he could be one of the elite of the competition let alone at our club. tbh i think he has more potential than martin just because i see him being so much more consistent. exciting times.

Conca helped stop our lack of centre clearances hurting us more than it did. He is prepared to win the hard ball and set up a few players inside 50. Last night was the best game I have seen Conca play.

I normally watch the game from ground level, but footy, rather than lukewarm, expensive beer, was my priority last night so I watched it from the nose-bleed section. It gave me a greater appreciation of the gut-running and the ferocity at the contest. Conca's hardness all night, particularly in the 2nd & 4th quarters was crucial. He was clearly in our best 3.

People have short memories... Cotchin is absolutely an elite kick. Granted he had a few errant kicks last night, he still one of the best ball users on both sides.

Ok now that I got out of the way, thought Conca was sublime. Had a few panic disposals but what kid at his age doesn't? Wonderful hands in tight and good aggression at the contest. Kicking I50 was a highlight of his game. Needs to keep it up but I feel he's going to have a good year :thumbsu:

Break out game for Conca I thought.

Seemed to have more physical presence and definitely knew how to impact on the game.

The improvement of young, mid tier players like Conca into mainstays (or even guns) is exactly what we need to take the next step.

Played really well but needs to string these types of games together. Not suggesting he needs to play like every week, but too often he plays a good game and then follows up with an average or ordinary one.

just on cotchins kicking, when he has it from a mark or in clear open space he can drill passes very well. the problem is that in play he seems to do a lot of very slow dinky kicks which give the opposition a chance to spoil, and i think his kicking lacks a bit of penetration. By that i mean i think he has a bit of a weakness hitting up long targets, so he is mostly looking for a short option. still a gun but everyone has a weakness.
