Its an ACL. He's not dead.
Nothing gets passed you does it Jen.

He’s been floating around for a few years and still hadn’t established himself. They’d shown him faith and looked to have him pencilled in as their key back. He’s done his knee a game into the experiment.
He's up against it coming back off an ACL next year and being at his best, which he’ll need to be to hold down a spot.
Looney if you think otherwise.

Lets see how he goes in his rehab. They manage them pretty well these days. He'll make sure he comes back a better athlete. Can get his fitness, running and strength up.
We should start seeing him on the track mid season I reckon. Probably starts running in July.

Yes, for all we know we get a genuine key defender in the off-season who will probably begin ahead of Reef in the pecking order because Reef hasn't had the opportunity to cement himself.

I’m disappointed for Reef. He was beginning to show signs of becoming a competent defender in his last game, so it’s disappointing for him.

Think the best option for the club is to delist and re-rookie.

like what? they're gonna give him a contract and always was going to.
They gave one to HH after he did his ACL, and they'll do it to reef. Just a matter of when. It'll come before the end of the season.
Different situation with HH, he’s shown in multiple AFL games (with less opportunities than Reef) that he’s up for it.

This year was probably a make or break year for him, so it’s terrible timing for his injury. I know he’s been on the list for a while now, but if the club thinks he has the potential to be a long term defender for us, then I see no harm in giving him a one year deal next year. Still think we need to get another defender for next season

Pretty certain he'll get offered one. Do you think him being a lock in back 6 happened out of nowhere? They clearly liked what they saw behind the scenes over the last few months. Obviously not just 1 ok game

He went back because it was his was last chance and they rolled the dice. Clearly the coach is desperate for another tall.

This time last year most of this forum was announcing Dean as the future.

He's got a long way to go to be a decent 3rd tall defender imo and now he's lost another year of development. He'll be 23 before he plays another game and has played 23 games in 4 years. It's not impossible but it's unlikely he'll be a long term player.

He had a great opportunity to try to make a spot his own this year. For his sake I hope he gets that opportunity again next year, but for our sake I hope Cochrane comes on really quickly and we recruit a ready made quality KPD in the off season, making it hard for him to get a look in.

We might pick one up in the MSD 🤞

The kid is only 22. He's a big-bodied one at that which are typically given a little time to develop. On top of that, he came in with back issues that hampered his development. The club knew what they were selecting with him and it would be foolish to dismiss him now when he has found a way into the best 22. Yes, he is largely an unknown quantity in the backline, however, the club has been deliberate with their decision regrading Reef and I don't see why that would change. There is huge upside with Reef. I, for one, believe that he is worth persisting with. There are others on the list that I would cut well before him.

I reckon given our list and what he showed up until now this year, they’ll offer him something.

There would be a few more likely to go first.
Got to remember the coaches have a body of work over pre-season and at training to go off too, not just two completed games in the role. I daresay the fact he started the year is an indication that he’ll be worth retaining for a fresh go next year. Look at how long we retained Scharenberg (who I rated, just couldn’t get his body right)

Yeah, Scharenberg was class but the injuries took away his athleticism. Pty.

Mcstay said he is gonna take him under his wing and look after him. Said he will make sure reef beats the markers in rehab that Mcstay went through. To do even better than him.

He won’t be alone through this.

FFS, I was hoping McStay was planning to stay out of rehab for a while.

I don't think anyone thought he would be? Harrison is still going through knee rehab.

I think Jen just meant he will have lots of support. Not that he would be literally alone.

Yeah HH clearly still going through it too. But mcstay would be more of a mentor given his experience.

HH didn’t beat mcstay’s markers so he is determined reef will.

Thought the same thing. Frees up a spot on the main list and still shows him we have faith and gives him a chance to go show his worth as a defender. Hope he recovers quickly.
