If you’re giving up 3 firsts, you want pick 1 or 2, and something else back. 3 firsts for pick 6 is a terrible outcome.

Then Sound Something we would do then

Cheer up Dave. The damage is done, it’s time to try and look to the positives heading in to the draft. I’m looking forward to seeing an injection of youth in to the squad. Hopefully we can nab a kid or two who can have the same sort of instant impact we saw from Stephenson.

I hope we get a kid who turns into a genuine gun over the long haul not fussed what they do in years 1 and 2 honestly.

Too much weight given to year 1.

Obviously you want long term performance too. An instant impact player (who can maintain the rage) would help negate the losses we’ve had recently though.

Yes I am. He was either misreported or mistaken in his recollection (for whatever reason ).

Read your quoted text it again, it quite clearly says they drafted Maynard after seeing Cripps output in his second season. Which is impossible.

Seriously it’s like arguing with a Trump supporter.

The lesson learned out of the whole thing was Cripps at 13," Rendell said. "Great kid, great interview, great clearance ... but basically didn't run outside the square.

"Then he goes for testing at the combine and runs an 11 beep. Jesus, I could run an 11 beep. So I've gone, 'This bloke is going to be a midfielder on an 11 beep?' Ain't going to happen."
Rendell said, under recruiting boss Derek Hine, Collingwood routinely reviews every player drafted in the AFL over five years. He said by Cripps' second year, they recognised "we've stuffed that up" by not picking the champion.

"I said, 'Righto, what have we learned out of it? Don't put everything into the running ability of an 18-year-old who's still growing.'
"The result of that, on the Cripps [decision] ... [was] Maynard, who also wasn't a great runner, [but] we've gone, 'Stuff it, we made the blue on Cripps because we didn't think he could run. We're not making the blue on Maynard.'"

You are saying that they couldn't re assess so early in his career to effect the choices they made on Maynard in a similar boat, this simply isn't true.
[/QUOTE]

Yes but Rendell didn’t say that. He explicitly said the end of the second year, not at the end of the first VFL year. and the outcome was to recruit Maynard.

You’re just being cantankerous now. The least you could do is admit that the article doesn’t read logically, and that you are reinterpreting it to fit the time line.

You are adding words to it.

Yep. Rebuilding phases can be great. Expectations will be lower so we won't be as dissatisfied when we aren't zinging and it'll be exciting to watch young kids come through. Plus I think we'll still have a strong enough core to be competitive. I'm really looking forward to next year with the hope of seeing the new pies begin to come through. I bloody hope Bucks lets them take the game on rather than instilling rigid structural discipline.

Honestly, I still think we can compete at the pointy end, provided we actively recruit a player to help our scoring. I’m predicting that JDG will replace Treloar in the middle next year. I want Rantall to be given an opportunity as a clearance player, and I want Elliott to move back to the forward line, amongst other things. I’m excited to see some games pumped in to a few of our younger guys now that the club is doing a mini rebuild. No more persisting with Mayne over Murphy for example.

I'm pretty bullish too, but I'd keep JDG forward and move Steele into the centre Square. Whilst JDG has the skillset, I'm not convinced he has the smarts for full time mid, plus I think he can give Coleman medals a shake up forward.

Steele is a good outside onballer but we need another bill in the middle to assist Adams, and I’m not convinced Sier will ever be up to it. Reef could probably rotate through, but I’d imagine he’ll play forward in Jordy’s role initially with brief cameos through the middle until he builds his tank.

Callow could probably play straight away. Not sure how much of an impact he’d have. Seems like a slightly taller version of Checkers to me, which isn’t a bad thing.

Yeah lets move a proven AA back to a place where he'd struggle and make us look even worse.
Moore wouldn’t struggle forward. He’s developed enough now that he could compete with pretty much any defender. Rendell said during trade week he believes Moore could be a top 3 KPF in the league if he was shifted now.

Sier is built like a bull but often plays like a skinny outside type.

He's certainly a top three KPD. I'm happy for him to go forward as long as it doesn't weaken our defence.
