Who does GBR compare best to be it Collingwood or non Collingwood players?
DeGoey. Had some good centre clearance moments at VFL level towards the end of the ‘21 season. From memory the game against the tuggers at Punt Rd was one of his better ones. Also has some ground level tricks as a forward. Yet to see lead up marks forward, but has enough height and ok hands, so hopefully that will come.

Will get more midfield minutes this week, hope he goes real well. Solid debut and a good size and speed for a mid

General traits are similar. You're saying that is superficial which I disagree with but thats the nature of big footy. You're right that Swanny could roost the ball. I just think Degoeys kicking has a little more penetration. But come to think of it im happy to conceed that one. I could argue that Degoey would be a better kick on his left though. Both were sublime at accelerating away from stoppage, breaking tackles and that quick change in direction. I think this is what seperates both of their games from your general run of the mill midfielder.

Degoey has a flatter spearing kick to his arsenal Swan couldn’t do that particular kick, Swan and Judd kicked very similar neither would be considered great ball users like Buckley etc but they both got the ball where it needed to go and good goal kicks on run.

I don’t think penetration was the wrong word at all in fact it’s what I’d use 50 low flat hard kicks. Swans were hang time 50m kicks, I’m betting if swanny and Degoey had a kick for length degoey would win.
Though Swan the better player to this date by a bit too.

More than kicking, there was a big difference in style. Degoey smashes at balls in dispute straight away with complete commitment and either wins it or is out of the contest. Swan didn't commit as early. He stayed in the contest always moving and ready to pounce on any ball that bobbled in his direction.

I’m hoping he ends up more in the Cripps mould but with better burst pace.

Rising star nom for this week. Collingwood got to make up for lost time last year. At least Nicky D got the jump on Jason Horne-Francis.

De Goey doesn't have more kicking penetration than Swan. Swan could absolutely roost the thing. Swan was an elite accumulator, with a great tank, elite repeat sprints, but with relatively low hurt factor on a per possession basis compared to his peers. De Goey is literally the opposite in most of those attributes. Lots of players in the AFL have power and speed but are very different. De Goey is in the Dusty Martin category, and neither are like Swan at all, though you could say they are all similar if you looked at them superficially as just power/speed midfielders.

They are getting closer in styles.

DeGoey this year has changed his style a bit and has become more of an accumulator/link player more in the swan style.

Swan was an accumulator who could be explosive. This year DeGoey has become an explosive player who can accumulate.

Would love see him break Duckwoods record
I’d like Pendlebury to get the captaincy record first. About 30 games behind, so he’d to captain for 2 years after Selwood hands it in. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Yep he's no longer all about bursting into the clear. So he's no longer just flashing through contests at high pace in that death or glory style. He's staying in the contest longer and thus winning more of them.

He’s a better player now that he’s capable of winning the easy ball as well as the hard one..and I think it’s aiding his consistency

The easy ball is just that he's fitter and playing mid, but he's also winning more hard balls too, because he's more about getting hands on the ball rather than just flashing through the contest. He's becoming the real deal around stoppage rather than just the spectacular deal.

Reef has plenty of attributes that we need for team balance. His size. His attack on the footy and speed. That smother alone has him playing next week. I’ve watched WHE for almost 10 years and he would break in half if he attempted that sort of act.

As long as there is a spot for WHE then Reef sure as hell plays. Because WHE is someone who is expendable well before a player like Reef.
