The elephant in the room is that we need Reef to get better so that we as a team can get better. Unless he really drops off, keep him in. Just like Maynard, Quaynor etc. did.

Yup, he obviously belongs and he has a properly high ceiling.

Didn’t realise we are trying to convert him to a FF.

Parked deep forward for parts of the game.

Either develop him properly or leave him in the VFL, but don’t put him to rot like last night.

Coaching howler.
He was playing the same role in the VFL. He got into the team on the back of playing deep forward with some stoppage mid rotations - basically the role Elliott usually plays in the seniors.

I think West Coast was trying to free up McGovern to run off McInnes, by matching him up on the second gamer. In turn, McInnes was obviously briefed to take him deep into the goal square whenever he was manned up by McGovern. It meant the young lad sacrificed his game for the team and you'd have to say McGovern was less influential after halftime, (he and Barass were f&(#ing killing us early). Should get another chance but, he is definitely a mid/forward-flanker type.

Would have been better off bringing Cox in to play that role

Think they are looking to let him take a similar path to Degoey.

Can he be a clearance beast like Adams or isn’t it his strength? That’s what we require.

He will eventually be a clearance player given his size but we are also talking about a player with excellent acceleration and would be suited to breaking away from packs so long as he learns to translate that speed in game.

Never get tired of watching Pendles put Daisy on his arse, thank you it is appreciated each time you post Loki.

If the talent is evident and there are no glaring skill or application issues then

Just have to persist with Reef in the same way they just kept putting weekly games into young J Daicos and Quaynor… to which the pies are now reaping the benefits of having done so
Not sure Josh Daicos should be a poster boy for getting weekly games early. He was in the VFL far more often than the AFL for the first 2-3 years of his career iirc.

Don't like the fact a young midfielder who has significant athletic attributes hasn't had 1 minute on ball at AFL level.

Throw him on ball. for 4-5 minutes a qtr, don't let him waste away deep in our forward line.

He’s not the first and he won’t be the last player to start their careers in their non preferred position on the field. Last player picked fills the gaps.

Will be fascinating to see which position he ends up playing.

He has the height and speed to play midfield, wing, half back or even as a fast leading full forward.

Or is it just the development program?
Its seem all young mids spend time fwd - CB Bianco McCrae now Reef.
And that's under 2 different Coaches.

Could be a means to develop fwd/mid flexibility like Elliot, JDG, WHE ( wing), Sidey, JOSH

I'm glad he's held his spot in the side another week, I'm interested to see what role he has given the other changes announced at selection tonight

Might be in the Midfield
