Wasnt that the knock on cripps?
Howd that turn out.
If reef puts in the work he can improve his tank. It will be up to him.
Cripps is more of an exception than the rule. Not saying that it's going to Reef, but the vast majority of big guys who train to be full time mids never develop the capacity to have both the Cripps tank and power. Most already have the tank as juniors then develop the size once in the system.

Covid wouldn't have helped that with Reef, given he would have played zero footy in his draft year, so we'd be going back to when he was 16 the year prior.

He was definitely one of many who got shafted by COVID related limited exposure but I think the point still stands. It's better to already have a good tank and then bulk up in the AFL system. Like speed, some players just don't have the genetics to run out a game no matter how hard they train. And with capped rotations, a skinny mid having a tank is much more valued than a big bodied mid who can only play <70% game time, unless they are a Martin/Dangerfield type that can monster a game resting forward.

Fin Macrae wasn’t a great runner nor had a lot of size. Seems to be flourishing well?

Fin Macrae has, as yet, done nothing at all at AFL level. Is he really the example you’re using to make the case that Reef can put on size, become a much better runner and “flourish” at AFL level?

Anyway, I hope you’re right. I don’t wish ill of any Collingwood player. I just don’t see what you’re apparently seeing in McInnes. Happy to be proven wrong.

Seems to be transferring well for Fin at VFL level though. You can use lots of other examples. Nat Fyfe, Tom Green, Jack Steele, Oliver and even JDG weren’t blessed with both size and elite tanks.

Maybe I’m just a bit more optimistic cause of the way Fly and his teammates seem to speak glowingly about his work ethic.

That still guarantees nothing though, but I bloody hope Reef makes it. We desperately need him to.

Fair. It's worth considering that the powerful types without midfield endurance do seem to eventually get there with endurance, but not until they're older- Petracca, JDG, Rayner is getting there.

Reef is one of my ones for delisting at seasons end. I’ve never rated him and from exposed VFL and AFL form I see no reason to keep him. He doesn’t cut it as a mid or a forward. He’s Tyler Brown, I stuck with with Tyler but I’ve learned my lesson on the “tall” midfielder or forward or whatever Reef is. People talked him up so much it was ridiculous when he never really showed much.
Thanks for giving it your best, you’ve done better than me and if you move to another club I hope you succeed.

I would be using Patrick Cripps as the example. He hired his own running coach in his 2nd or 3rd season and changed his body shape. Really improved his running.

I just can't write off Reef. For me, and I am no expert but he has had enough almost moments to say that he could become a really good player. He is being played out of position and trying to learn it at the same time. I think he's got wingman written all over him where he could use his above average pace and skills to advantage

Contracted, so not going anywhere this year. They're not gonna cut a contracted kid whose got plenty scope of improvement.

I don’t think anyone here can write him off just yet.

People forget that some players take 4-8 years for it to really click.

Josh Daicos, Moore and JDG are good examples of players on our list that took a bit of time.

We are lucky we have Fly, Leppa, Bolton and all the other coaching staff that can help Reef take it to the next level.

The ball is in his court. Superstardom is there if he really wants it.

Have you seen the pace displayed yet in a game? He hasn't struck me as fast off the mark. Wing is an interesting suggestion.

I don't think they've been playing him in a position where he can showcase his pace. He has had a lot of injuries and hasn't had a good run at it. That speed off the mark is enough for wing. Sidey has made a living out of it as have many other wingman. Reefs marking would also be very useful on the wing. He has been playing forward which is a lot harder to take a mark with your opponent right with you. On the wing he could be very useful as a down the line target, where he would be able to find more space and then use his breakaway speed to advantage

Our wingman play wide and hold that outside structure. You need enormous endurance to play that position.

Sidebottom has never had pace off the mark to my observation. He’s evasive and can run all day.

His marking could be a weapon but I don’t see him having the endurance to get to enough contests.

Really? There are a plenty of players we have on our list right now that would be right in front of him.

Don't like it Manic. Wings about endurance and smart running. I suspect they're his two biggest weaknesses.

Pace wise, he's shown no inclination to run and carry or burst from congestion. I think he'll use his pace more effectively at either end - to get separation as a forward or to close space as a defender.

We don't know if endurance is a weakness, we haven't seen him have to use it. I think playing him forward is all part of his development. He has no forward craft or defensive craft. He will end up playing midfield of some sort because that's where his best position will be. We all fall for the slow development syndrome but this kid has too much talent to be written off already. He is still well and truly in development stage.

On tv earlier in year the year, Bucks said he'll be an inside mid. And he'll know way better than all of us. I can't say I can see it though.

But agree in him being a developing kid. He just looks really unconfident and nervous. I don't think we'll know what we've got until he feels he belongs.

I'm hoping with all of Kreuger, Johnson and McStay probably playing VFL this weekend that Reef will be able to get predominantly midfield minutes
Plus add in Begg/Oscar playing forward at times too. It really is a good opportunity for Reef to have some midfield minutes

Did Tyler Brown ever kick 6 at VFL level? I dunno.

It would be silly to delist McInnis. He'll be a best 22 from next year I reckon.

Got more weapons the Tyler and imo more talent. Reef though it seems lacks confidence and a run of continuity at the top level.
