I can see why we traded Stephenson because we think Reef will be a replacement.
His treloar replacement at the start, then if good enough Pendles spot in the future, will have size and a bit more speed

Being a Essendon supporter dodo will bid on him for sure and force us to match, but if the kid is good l won’t mind if we do.

Maybe I am showing my ignorance here but I have a query.
Many people here are saying he will go in the 20's or even the early 30's.
If that is the case then it is a speculative pick. Why are we so concerned about points and "having" to match a bid.
I can understand how you would make sure you have a strategy for the likes of Moore or from what we have been told Daicos. But for a player in the 20's or early 30's surely it's a case of "if we get him then all good but if we don't then there is other talent out there that is equally as good."
Sounds to me like people are thinking that just because he is a NGA (or whatever it is called) we have to get him.
If he wasn't a NGA (or whatever it is called) attached to us would we all be this interested in him.
Seems to me like we are over valuing him purely on the basis that we have access to him.

I don't get this talk about burning one of our early picks to match a bid. If he is worth it we will and if he isn't we wont. We are not obliged to take him.

I understand how trading picks for someone like Moore or Daicos is strategic because you know they will be top 10, but surely we shouldn't be stressing about someone who is in the 20' or 30's.

If we get him we get him if we don't we don't.
I haven’t seen a single person say he’ll get a bid in the 30’s. Most predictions are late teens to early second round, and he’s slid purely on the fact he hasn’t played this year.

I have a feeling his first few years will be as a forward. He is a special talent and we are lucky we have first dibs on him

Yes but we’re hoping Reef may actually prove to be successful at it.
Just thinking if we don't get Reef we get aggressive and go picks 14 & 16 plus our first round next year, jag pick 6 from the Bombers and try and get Riley Tilthorpe hoping that Crows, Kangas, Hawks go for mids. Geez his highlights are impressive

His first yr mainly a forward as he builds his tank, with odd runs in the mid field.but once he gets his tank up look out

he's rated top 10 - 15 by most scribes, helped by him recording the fastest 20 metre sprint time at combine, the fact that he is bottom age, and is already a 6' 4" utility, and has midfield potential.

we obv want to sneak some other picks in before we have to match a bid for him. Ie., we wont use 14 or 16 if he's still available. but wait to either match & get the 20% discount... or he drifts and costs us less points.

We're def taking him though

Think you'll find Rantall & Tyler Brown.... plus Merrett will be the Treloar replacements

Why did you have to mention waterfalls? Gross.

I see Cal Twomey has him now listed at 20, in the phantom draft. The further he keeps dropping, the better for us on draft night...😜

I think at least 5 of the players ahead of him on that list are Academy selections, though. Pushes him back down to our current 1st pick.

No offence against Carl, clubs do occasionally go against what he thinks, and dodo is a strange cat, don’t trust him at all
Hope he becomes a third rounder, but we are not that lucky

I think we need more than that. Trading 3 first rounders for 1, considering what we have already given up, would be an absolute disaster.

I would prefer to trade with GWS than Essendon. Something like the following:

Give: Pick 14, Pick 16, next year's first.
Get: Pick 10, Pick 13, pick 29.

This gives us a reasonable opportunity to get two first rounders in before our NGA guy, but also gives us in pick 29 most of the points we'll need to get him without going into deficit.

If he gets bid on before 10 or 13, we make a call on whether he's worth matching. If he is, then great. If he's not, then we pass on him and still get 3 good kids workout jeopardizing our position re Nick Daicos next year.

Yeah there’s one who is a pre-selection to the GC, so effectively he’s ranked Reef at 19 with 4 NGA picks ahead of him who will be presumably matched by teams with picks after ours.

Pushes our picks back to 18 and 20 in effect.
