Or they kept tabs on his progress in the VFL across his first year and realised that he was going to become a very good player.
Either way it wasn’t his “ breakout second season” that made us recruit Maynard as was reported in that article

It's a nice pick up to have noticed Timmy. I do suspect Rendell is legit in terms of Cripps making them change the criteria, but it seems like he may have been stretching to find a supporting example of the impact of the changed criteria.

He's really only a late draft prospect Dave. Like a late 40's / early 50's pick at the earliest. Need that word to get around to other clubs now more than ever.
Don't get angry over it mate, it just is what it is when you come in at the back of the pack in the 2km time trial. He was virtually hurled down the track by a mini tornado for the record, so that 20m sprint time doesn't count.

I'd say going from struggling to hit an 11 beep to being able to make the AFL team is a huge change in 2 seasons.
Timmy is too focused on Cripps only played X games but recruiters can see his results of work in VFL too. Playing AFL games isnt the only way for them to see improvement in players.
Why the f**k would Rendell lie about it, serves him no purpose.
I think the joke went over your head on that one mateLMAO only him though none of the other draftee's were effected.
He blitzed his draft class in the SAME conditions.
Even given a strong tail wind the effect it has on a 20m time is marginal, hell even over 100m it is not that big talking 0.10 seconds over 100m for a 2+m tailwind.

ShhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhWait - 193 CM 2.78 Seconds 20m sprint?
wtf isn't that exceptional? Don't think too many actual AFL players can reach that level of speed, let alone a 193 cm player, let alone a DRAFTEE?
Looks to have tremendous potential, a guaranteed draft bolter, would be a miracle if bids came after our firsts
I am quoting what I read. Maybe it was misreported or maybe Rendells recollection is hazy and he had the timing mixed up.
Not sure why you are trying to argue against facts. Cripps breakout second season is not the reason we recruited Maynard, because it hadn’t happened yet.
I have no doubt we learned from the mistake of writing Cripps off for poor endurance but Maynard is not an example of that based off Cripps second year of football which was yet to happen.
Definitely possible that it played out that way, but it seems more likely that Rendell got his example wrong.I'd say going from struggling to hit an 11 beep to being able to make the AFL team is a huge change in 2 seasons.

He said they talked about Maynard and used Cripps in that discussion in another interview on radio a while back whilst still at the club.
I think him being 2IC to Hine at that time qualifies him to know more then you me and Timmy on this issue.
He (Timmy) has always been a very strong and pro club person many thought a plant even to start. Not remotely even handed when discussing the pies. In fact I originally suspected he was Josh Fraser.PLAYERCARDSTARTJosh Fraser

Spinny cops the flak but Timmy is much worse when it comes to matters discussing the pies the club and its decisions can not be questioned or viewed in a negative way.

I am truly honoured.
However I am merely asking whether time travel has been utilised for the club to look at Cripps form in the future to help them draft Maynard in the present.
Can’t see why you would be up in arms about a simple question
I'm a Rendell fan, but
Can't say I've noticed that and this one isn't a great example as he's questioning a statement that came out of the club (at least I think it was a statement made by Rendell when he was sorking for us and not after.)
Pretty sure I heard Rendell tell that story on trade radio a couple of weeks ago. Can't say I've noticed that and this one isn't a great example as he's questioning a statement that came out of the club (at least I think it was a statement made by Rendell when he was sorking for us and not after.)
Then your blind as a bat and must skip his posts.
He is questioning the veracity of Rendell's statement not the clubs.
In that case, why all the fuss over him? If not ranked at least top 20, he is just another player. The way some posters fawn over him, you'd think we were drafting the messiah.I don't think he goes in the top 20 from what I have researched regarding the top 20 the past month
Think he goes around 24-30
In that case, why all the fuss over him? If not ranked at least top 20, he is just another player. The way some posters fawn over him, you'd think we were drafting the messiah.
No thanks. Not 3 first rounds on one player.Just thinking if we don't get Reef we get aggressive and go picks 14 & 16 plus our first round next year, jag pick 6 from the Bombers and try and get Riley Tilthorpe hoping that Crows, Kangas, Hawks go for mids. Geez his highlights are impressive
Probably because of all the players outside the top 20 (and some inside) he has the most upside and scope for development. The only reason he’s not higher is because of his lack of exposure in the midfield imo. His versatility in being able to play around the ground has worked in our favour imo, because it meant that Oakleigh played Rowell, Anderson, Phillips and Macrae ahead of him in those pure midfield roles whenever they were available. In that case, why all the fuss over him? If not ranked at least top 20, he is just another player. The way some posters fawn over him, you'd think we were drafting the messiah.
If you’re giving up 3 firsts, you want pick 1 or 2, and something else back. 3 firsts for pick 6 is a terrible outcome.Just thinking if we don't get Reef we get aggressive and go picks 14 & 16 plus our first round next year, jag pick 6 from the Bombers and try and get Riley Tilthorpe hoping that Crows, Kangas, Hawks go for mids. Geez his highlights are impressive
And sweeps aside the dead cap before him! By then Beams’ payout ought to be off the books as well as Treloar’s most expensive year, so it might just be down to what Langdon’s doing to determine whether we’ll be back on a near-level playing field in 2022.He comes next year.
