Might be a blessing in disguise, at least during his recovery it will give him time to build his fitness.

I don’t know. From my perspective an injury is rarely a blessing in disguise for the injured player only the club. Reef’s injury came as we kicked off match sim which is where they build most of their fitness...

It’s hard to find an example without potting a bloke, but perhaps JT last year who was meandering through the year. An injury say 2/3 of the way through might have been a blessing in disguise for the team because it would have forced the coaches hand.

Ah bugger didnt see that in the news. I believe he wouldve probably otherwise played rd1?

Not physically ready and not talented enough to simply walk into the team, will likely take a few years to find his feet.

The only time it would sense is perhaps a star player like Grundy is playing every week with an injury that's stopping him from performing, then he gets a short term injury that forces him out and allows his other injuries to heal and let's him finish the season strongly. With reefs finger injury he risks chronic issues, and would've been working on his fitness anyway with his poor endurance times

Not physically ready? Yep.
Not talented enough? Not sure how you could possibly make a judgement like that without having seen him play or train even once....

Not talented enough to simply walk into the AFL team from round 1 coming off a back stress fracture and mediocre fitness. The talent to demand playing round 1 of your first year is something I reserve for the real elite talents - Sam Walsh Rowell ect, and no experts have him rated at that elite end of the draft, so I won't either.

There were actually a few experts who rated him in their top 10, but ok m8, you know best.

Henry looks to be playing round 1, and he was taken 6 picks before we matched a bid for reef.

If a kid is ready physically and there is a spot available, I don't think it matters if you're in the top 5 in your draft or not.

When you Google most actually had him in the teens or later, and no afl club bid on him till pick 23 (which was a fake bid to force a trade), so it's probably safe to say he's no a top 5 pick on talent right now genius :drunk:

You’re confusing phantom drafts with power rankings. Regardless, your theory about round 1 debutants is shit, in the last decade we’ve had several late picks and rookies debut in round 1. Our pick 17 is looking likely. It’s not a game reserved for the uber elite.

It's for the Best Avaliable 22

Where's Finlay Macrae at?
He looked very likely early in preseason but the round 1 optimism seems to have died down.

He's a type that can come in and perform very early.

Signs are still good but his father died suddenly last week and he hasn't been at training since then, which is fair enough.

He will play a decent amount of footy this season.

I think today is his first time back at the club training since his dad passed. Pretty unlikely for round 1 I’d say.

Before or After he had the Few Weeks Off?
I’d say before. We have a lot of players jostling for midfield/wing spots. He’d be competing with Rantall, Bianco, Brown x2, Murphy, Sier and a couple of others for a spot. No doubt he’d be ahead of a few of those names, but not at the top of the list just yet.

Langdon played every game in hsi debut year from a pick in the 60s. Cripps and Neale weren't considered top 5 pick on talent. Once a bloke enters the AFL the pick is irrelevant, it's just an indicator of how clubs viewed the player's talent at the final point of their junior career. If done a year earlier, the ordering of "talent" would be very different. If done a year later it would be different again.

Langdon was a mature aged recruit though.... just saying. I agree with your point. McInnes was being talked up as top 5-10 prospect going into the 2020 season. That he was denied the opportunity to cement that ranking and eventually slipped to a pick in the 20's is purely a bonus for us. I don't doubt both he and Macrae would have been pushing for a R1 spot alongside Henry if not for their setbacks.

What Apex said.

Before. Now Noble on the wing, you also have Rantall, Tyler brown. Daicos too if they decide against playing inside

Well Rantall not getting a Go so they be about the same.

Daicos is Clearly Better then Macrae at the Moment
