For those that watched the VFL today, what role/position was Reef playing.

Was it all day as a FWD or did he spend some time in the MID? did he attend any Centre Square bounces?
Forward and mid. Yes he did.

I like to rhyme :)

He went to centre bounces - but did he stay in the midfield or head straight forward after them?
Doesn’t rhyme. Fail.

Went to the centre bounce
Occasionally would pounce
Thrust forward to attack
Showed he wasn’t a forward hack
The goals he kicked were clutch
Regaining a bit of touch…
I just remembered Pieku

I miss him 😢

Who’s he competing with for a spot? JDG? Adams?
I think he’d offer more than t brown. And I’d prefer reef over c brown, despite c browns game. We’ve had more than enough games to know he can’t step up. Reef is next in line. But I still think is a month away.

Reef at the moment is a contested ball player with hardly any non contested game.

I think with a tank and development he will learn the latter.
I don't think he'll ever need to rack up big numbers. I think mid roles are beginning to be separated into stoppage and general play with the biggest difference makers being guns around stoppage who can then can play attacking side of the ball and win contests moving forward. That's the kind of player I think they'll try to develop him into. Still needs a much bigger tank to get to a heap of stoppages.

Harrison appears next in line

At the moment, if we want to cover Tylers inside mid minutes, Callum is next in line. Harrison and Reef will debut in the forward line.
Cal should be next in line for nothing. Not sure how many times we have to witness him play well at VFL level only to flounder in the big league before we realise he is simply not up to it.

He might not need to, but I think he’ll be able to accumulate some pretty good numbers once he gets his tank up to scratch. He proved he could do it in his bottom age u18 year when he was given the chance, so he’s not coming off a purely speculative base like T Brown or Sier was when we drafted them.

Mcrae isn't going to have a line through anyone based on their previous reputation. Or at least he shouldn't. He'll get another opportunity - you're going to see it at least one more time.

One thing (well, maybe two) on Reef and his tank; he’s not like Brayden Sier who was a complete smokey, he seems a solid citizen and as part of our NGA academy the club would have had a really good look at him and his work ethic, professional behaviour etc. I’m pretty confident he’ll make the necessary commitment to lift his fitness and running capacity.

The other thing is the injury situation/having to change his running gait, that would have been a step-back-to-take-several-steps-forward scenario.

Which we should all be ok with if it’s through the midfield. Like Bianco the forward experiment has to be over, but we’d be mad not to get a look at C Brown the mid in 2022 just like the Blues and Dow. I understand the “he’s had enough chances” angle gouki88 I just think that because 95% of them were as a forward he deserves at least an opportunity to show his best at the top level (preferably with a full compliment of mids around him).

He was touted as a potential top 10 pick at the start of his top age year.

As he had played half forward and half back mainly as a bottom ager but then had some really big games when Rowell, Anderson and Phillips where off at Vic Metro

I know, but my point isn’t that he’s good, it’s that we knew what kind of person we were getting when we were prepared to match any bid from about 8 (?) onwards in that draft for him. If he were of questionable work ethic, the kind you might be worried about putting in the necessary hard yards to build their tank, we would have known then.

Absolutely correct.

His spot as a forward is gone now with Ginnivan and McCreery clearly better suited.

I sense for Cal his opportunity may come when/if Adams is injured or suspended. I can’t see us wanting to play the two given their lack of height. Even then he’ll probably need to be playing better at the time than Macrae.
