Richards was a more than handy player for us, and if it were not for Sheedy trying to pocket Henneman and Bolton to marry his daughters then perhaps he would have gotten some game time and shown what he could have been.

Sydney have definitely won out on this one at this point, I'm afraid.

I also look at it in the way that we lost Richards and pick 20. We got Cole and Pick 19. Courtney Dempsey hasn't done anything yet.
And lets face it, the pick 50 to 51, much of a muchness; Lonergan would most likely have still been available, given Sydney went for speed.

Essendon loss. Hard to argue at this point.

Agree with this, I was very disappointed when we traded Richards, always seemed to have the talent.

Yep so much of a spud that he continues to get a game every week in a side that has made the finals each year he has been there

A lot of ordinary players forge out long careers. Richards is one of them.

He will never get you a flag. His mistakes in the GF were costly and that's the player he is. Battler that is prone to critical mistakes at times.

He told Essendon that he wanted to leave and from memory was out of contract. Essendon was keen to keep him. He did a very good job on Russell Robertson in round 22 in 2005 when he was in full flight in what was to be his final game for Essendon

You've no idea. Ted Richards was by far one of our more promising kids. Granted, if he was still at the club now, he would be a lock in for best 22.

Probably fair enough, we didn't give him any where the amount of games he deserved.

He was no good. That's why Sheeds persisted with others because he knew Ted had limitations.

He has been dropped a number of times by Sydney and made crucial mistakes in the GF.

He's nothing but a good battler who would not get a game for us because players like NLM would be in front.

For people like Henno? and you wonder why he left.

We are way behind on this trade because of Cole - we got pick 19 so we could get Cole - why we gave up a 2nd rounder for him I'll never know.

Dempsey may still come good even if he stays injured. GC anyone?

It is foolish to assume that a player from the GC will return home simply because there is a new team strting up there.

The trade itself is fairly even at this point but once our players get a few more games under their belt you'd expect Lonergan and Dempsey to be integral members of the team and they are more talented then Richards.

He has been dropped once since he has been with Sydney. Missed round 13 and 14 in 2006.
Since then he has played every game for a total of 70 games out of 72 possible.
Showing once agin that your judgment and facts are questionable !

In his last season with us he was dropped after the Brisbane game in round six becasue of a piss poor efort in steppingout of Browns way rather than taking the body contact. He returned in round 16 and held his spot for the last 7 games and then had a good finals series for Bendigo. the only reason he had been dropped previously was he was not developed enough body wise and was too skinny to be playing KP.

Who says Dempsey would want to go to the GC. He is from Cairns which is the 1900km form the GC. They may be in the same state but they are certainly a bloody long way apart. :)

On top of that, he's just had a child here in Melbourne and one would imagine he'd be looking to settle his life as much as possible.
