Who'd want to watch Embley single handedly cost us a prelim all over again?
That dribble kick that went straight to Collingwood that led to a goal in the last quarter just as we grabbed the game by the neck will forever be seared into my brain. The pies were ripe for the beating in that last quarter, they were emotionally spent after the death of John McCarthy, we couldn't get across the line. Up until the 2018 qualifying and grand final, it was just another agonising finals loss to them.

I was there that night and looked upfield to see we had 3 players streaming forward towards the goals basically on their own only to turn back to see the ball going back into Collingwood's forward line after Embley kicked the ground wondering wtf happened.

And for being a key member of the runts that got the game to stay at the g for the next 10,000 years.

They didn’t put a gun to Gil’s head. It was a financial decision and it wouldn’t have mattered who was part of the committee. I don’t like the fact it’s happened but I’m pragmatic enough to know that dollars and cents drove the decision and nothing else.

40,000 extra tickets alone @250.00 a pop is 10,000,000. Now add the extra for hospitality, corporate, advertising...etc

It’s probably in the ball park of $20-30,000,00 additional dollars for one game. Is it any wonder why the AFL want to keep it at the G? That’s in comparison to Optus. Add up those numbers for any other ground and they are probably double that again.

Now add on the 225 million dollars the Victorian state government pledged to the ethiad stadium and district and it was never up for debate.

Is it fair? Hell no! Were we ever going to change the outcome regardless of who was driving it? Not a chance in hell.

So what’s new? We’ve won four premierships travelling all across the country for 30 plus years, training in cow paddocks, having home finals taken away from us and having to play the Grand Final in enemy territory.

I’m over whinging about it, used to the bullshit and personally I think it’s just hardened the club and helped us become the fortress of professionalism we are.

Ok

Collingwood cronies getting shelled everywhere. I must admit I’m enjoying seeing this.

“High-profile director Andrew Demetriou has resigned from the board of Crown Resorts while hitting back at “unfair and unjust” criticism directed at him in an independent report that found Crown is unfit to run a casino in NSW.

“I have always been a team player and supported the greater good,” the former AFL boss said in a statement released on Thursday night.”

Even if we play them here, they are always up and about for the first month, they seem to always be competitive or get the wood over us.
First game out of QLD for them since early last season, hopefully a feral 30k (or more!) crowd, I'd be disappointed if we dont win by 5+ goals.

If Melbourne go into lockdown or this gets worse for Victoria , maybe the Bulldogs & Saints play over here for rounds 2 & 4.

Could be a handy start to the year.

Nek Minnit

"West Coast will need to fly to the Gold Coast in a hub to play the Bulldogs and Saints with their rounds 1 and 3 home matches also moved there"

I think it will be relaxed somewhat with the teams coming here compared to last year.
I expect other states will adopt the same approach as South Australia this past season, with teams being allowed to fly in to play and then fly straight out. I seriously doubt WA will afford the same to other teams. Sudden border closures are a real genuine concern this coming season. I expect a couple of home games will be played interstate as a result, unfortunately.
