Their members voted against a merger with Melbourne. They sure as sh*t aren’t going to agree to a relocation
If the money was there and the afl could guarantee 11 victorian games plus 7 tassie home games you'd think they'd seriously think about it.

If the Hawks want to get rid of Kennett (or should I say, someone at the Hawks, specifically Don Scott) they have to basically pounce on that statement and try and fire back now.

Very stupid comment from Kennett IMO, might somehow get every stakeholder offside in one sentence, which is an impressive feat.

Sounds like the results likely demonstrated that any NT license would be heavily reliant on significant top-up funding from the AFL to keep it running.

In the current environment, any release of such a study would only become fodder to be used by those who have an interest in making sure that the NT is ruled out of all future expansionist (or relocation) plans.

With the NT Thunder going belly-up and Covid cut-backs across the sport, the likelihood of seeing an independent NT license club in the top level of competition is now unfortunately as remote as it has been at any time in the past 30 years.

The closest the NT will get to AFL in the foreseeable future are the two parasite matches that Melbourne and Gold Coast will play in Alice Springs and Darwin respectively each year.

I’ve seen it suggested before but Gold Coast Suns should become the Northern Suns and split home games between NT and northern Queensland
Not the worst idea. Could even throw a couple of games at Cairns as well (i.e. 6 GC, 3 NT, 2 Cairns). Should at least boost the average attendance up at Metricon as well. Probably not by much - I imagine most of the Suns fans that attend home games, attend pretty much all home games. But any boost is better than none.

One concern is how hard it is to galvanise a supporter base when home games are split 1000km+ away from each other. To my knowledge that's not been done successfully in Australian club sport before (happy to be shown as wrong here). The closest I can think is Hawthorn and the Roos playing regular home games in Tasmania, but they have decades of support behind them, and play numerous away games in Melbourne anyway their supporters can attend. You could obviously argue our club represents a region, rather than a specific city, which is true, but we play all our home games in Perth. North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL is the same representing a region but playing all their home games in Townsville.

It is a realistic responce to reduced revenue and the need to grow the girls game, that being the only growth area that is of any significance.
Socialism, of living of others incomes, only goes so far I guess.

I wouldn’t have thought so, seems like austerity policy by the AFL accelerating the already rapidly growing divergence between the elite private school pipeline and everyone else.

The AFL has happily outsourced junior development in Victoria - especially - to elite private schools as it keeps costs down. Makes fiscal sense, but is undoubtedly bad if you’re interested in something like equal opportunity. Just classic AFL non-profit sh*t. 😒

A lot of it comes across as Victorian clubs having a sook about not being able to get an early look at local talent, but there are some legitimate concerns within that which are being raised.

Seems like the costs and growth of girls football are both well beyond what was expected and the NAB clubs have been forced into a position where they have to provide more products without any additional funds coming in. The boys NAB League will no doubt suffer in its quality as a result.

At the same time the private school system remains unaffected, flush with its own funds and now provides far more opportunity for players to impress recruiters simply by virtue that the elite schools will play twice as many matches as a club in the NAB League.

Keep this up and the NAB League will end up becoming nothing more than a feeder competition for the private schools, further entrenching the old boys clubs and making it far harder for a player who is from a lower socio-economic background, or a late bloomer to have anywhere near the same opportunity to be drafted.

It doesn't read well for grassroots football in Vic country areas.

Just finished re-watching the 06 GF. Such a fall from grace for some of our brightest lights. Kerr tore up that game with some ridiculous gut running. Makes me a bit sad these boys can't work their sh*t out.

Looks like Dan is going to spend some time in the clink here. You can't be setting/threatening to set things/people on fire and roaming the streets.

Bloody hell.

From memory he tried to do the same with his ex's house?

Dude has some serious anger issues, but his dad wasn't the best role model for that either
