Watching Richmond effortlessly sink the Saints just further confirms my thoughts that we are going to piss away another season.

Club's cooked lads.

All Richmond did was hold out the initial burst, wait for the turnovers and then step it up once St Kilda started to lose defensive structure.

The Saints are a very fragile team in their mentality, they break very easily once the opponent gets on top of them.

Which makes our capitulation to them last week all the more embarrassing and galling.

The lack of being able to kill off opponents is currently the difference between our club and the other contenders vying for the premiership.

Why not? Barring Richmond nobody is really much chop.
Well we havent gone past the semi final stage in the last 2 years. We are older, slower and haven't really added to the squad. Our best 2 mids are out injured. I'm not trying to go all ep2018 here but the chance of us winning the flag is very low.

This difference in ruthlessness is depressing.

About half a game ago I thought we were sitting pretty well tbh
Absolutely we were. Which probably underlines how messed up last weeks second half was, given it feels like we may be throwing our season on the back of a half a game...

Tomorrow will be very telling. Even with a nice win, there will still be some unanswered questions (such as our ability consistently hang tough in the face of an opposition onslaught) , but a poor turn out tomorrow could really see the season go into freefall.

Did anyone seriously think we would win the flag this year?

We are perfectly capable of doing so.

Have a clean injury list at the end of the season and the club can beat anyone, anywhere.

The problem is in minimising how much damage is incurred to the season between now and then whilst those star players are missing.

This is a lesson in how you completely kill off a team after you have a 32 point lead half way through the third. Hope the players are watching this and are totally pissed off that the let this rabble beat them.
I’d also put it out there that no team in the league is replicating last week in their following game. Sure we f*cked up but Richmond’s life has been made a heck of a lot easier from the Saints having to pull themselves out of a fire last week. I’d put a fair bit of money on us winning by 60+ if the Saints had just come from 30 behind against Richmond too.

We should be 4-0

We have talent out the wazoo and the mental fortitude of a stewed cabbage.

Maybe it's naive to hope every season that we will turn up to play reliably. The group here is close to done. A loss to Collingwood, which looks very possible a d a thumping at the Cattery and it's season over after 6 rounds.

I don't think it was unreasonable to be bullish pre-season. It's entirely mental with this lot and to an outsider it seems like something that can be turned around rapidly.

It’s a bit of a cop out seeing as we still should have won last week.. but if we had the Saints either this week or 2 weeks ago we would have won comfortably (even more so than we should have). They got a nice little ramp up in the week leading into our game and that combined with our lack of ruthlessness was a nice alignment of stars. Would have been a cruisy, probably underwhelming, flat track either of the other two weeks.

It's pretty rare, but these two consecutive weekends from 2006 are great to relive.

How's the campaigner in Richmond. 11 goals up and still physically hook into that spud who coughed up a 50.

These guys are in the box seat for a three peat because the side best equipped to take them on is full of custard headed quitters.

Blame the players as much as you want, but it comes from the leadership of the team not instilling non negotiables week after week no matter who you are. Really is a miracle WC won 2018. Simpson does not have the balls to ever make a hard decision

Plenty have teams have replicated their form from one week to the next. The difference between us and Richmond is that they keep going when they have built up a lead whereas we stop dead in our tracks. They did it against Port 2 weeks ago and again last week.

I hope all the posters who were having a crack at those of us pissed off with the Port game close out are watching Richmond tonight and are able to understand the need to bury teams properly rather than piss away good percentage and psychological edges that come from putting teams to the sword.
