Hawthorn ruckman Shaun Rehn is launching a supreme court case against the AFL, the SANFL and the Adelaide Crows over his knee injury in the first game of the Ansett Cup in 1999, where at a centre bounce, he slid across a bounce pad and broke his knee. He reckons he has lost confidence, lost faith in himself and his ability. He reckons he was the leading ruckman in the AFL at the time it happened and that injury has ruined his chance of playing for a few more years than what he can now, which means he has lost what could possibly of been millions of dollars in wages.

I can understand why he is sueing everyone...but youd think he would wait till after he retires.....if he goes ahead and sues the Adelaide Crows...i cant wait till the next Hawthorn v Crows match!!!

Has a case against the AFL and SANFL, but the Crows?

He definately was one of the top ruckmen at the time, and he definately has lost his leap and pace.

He'll get compensation in my opinion, as they were at fault for having the disk in the circle.

What has the Crows got to do with it!!!
If anything the Crows should sue the IDIOTS that put the centre disk in place.
Funny time to drop this bombshell:eek:

Definatly a strange one....if he is sueing Adelaide..why isnt he sueing Port too

What he said is all three of those parties (AFL, SANFL, Crows) knew about the plate and knew it was a problem but all three didnt do a thing about it until it was too late.

The AFC will just refer it to their insurers

He would name all three parties in an ambit claim but would probably get the money from the AFL or the SANFL

As the SANFL own the AFC anyway, its really the same thing.

He sues the Crows for failing to provide a safe system of work as they were his employers. He sues the others for negligence saying they owed him a duty of care to provide a safe surface and they breached that duty by having the rubber disc there. It would have been reasonably forseeable that by having the disc there, a player who would contest a ruck ball up would be at risk of suffering an injury as a result.

That is the way it works legally.

It is a bizzare time to bring it up, but it has been coming for a while. I remember after it happened in 1999, Max Stevens brought it up, and every once in a while he mentions it again.

Hawk fans, how has he been performing during the pre season? what's the word on Rhen over there?

Umm how do I put this nicely? He hasn't exactly set the world on fire during his tenure at Hawthorn

Rehn has been OK in practice games, but he is struggling a bit for pace. He was rested from last week's game in Shepparton but will probably play on Saturday. He definitely isn't the player he used to be, and I'm hoping he can stay completely fit, because anything less means he is a liability.

The 2001 finals showed he still has plenty to offer however.

How quickly they forget. If it wasn't for Shaun Rehn I doubt the Crows would have their 2 premierships.

Although I have to agree with previous sentiments, I thought it was odd he was suing the Crows. The club was penalised when they lost their number 1 ruckman. Season 1999 was over for Adelaide when Rehn slipped on that disc.
