At the start of Brown and Reid's career I thought Brown was going to be a much better player than Reid. Reid seemed to start his career quite slowly unlike Brown who started his career with a bang. Now that Reid has been pushed back and become a bit bigger he looks the goods. Do you think Reid has passed Brown as a player

Tough to compare the two really.

Brown has over 40 games "in the bank", and is going to be Presti's replacement, in that he will only be a dour defender.

Reid on the other hand is a modern day rebounding defender, who will probably be beaten one on one by the best forwards, but will give us plenty of drive off half back.

It depends on what you rate more, drive off half back, or a "pure" defender that will just stop his player.

They are both developing perfectly, room for both of them in the same team for 10 years to come.:thumbsu:

I favour Nathan Brown at the moment, just for his "consistency" and defensive efforts, but I'd love to be able to compare the 40 + game Nathan Brown to a 40 + game Ben Reid in 18 months time, I think Reid will be something special.

I'm loving them both at the moment. I had my doubts about Reid at the start of the year but jeez he is going to be good and Brown seems to be very consistent

I think Presti and Reid is the best combo. Simply because Presti and Brown limits our run too much. Reid is the best CHB option because of his mobility. I think Presti is a given and Reid is just more complimentary for him. I'd be happy to see them all rotated through the season with about 16 games a piece.

Thought Reid was very good against Nth and good against Freo, Brown did a steller job on Pavlich when he went forward last night. As good as presti has been I would rather see both Brown and Reid in the side. Redi is a must to stay in but would not be upset to see Brown lose his spot to Presti but on last nights effort he deserves another week

At the end of their (hopefully 200+ game) careers, I think Ben Reid will be judged the better player. He already reads the play & rebounds so well at this early stage. His body strenght & one-on-one contests will improve as he gets more age & experience. Nathan Brown will also improve, but I think he's a more one-dimensional player.

Reid does some very stupid shit sometimes, whereas Brown hasn't got much to offer other than as a shutdown defender. I like more Brown though, think he has great potential as does Reid.

Nathan Brown = Darren Glass
Ben Reid = Matthew Scarlett
We can dream.

I probably rate Brown higher even though he doesn't give as much run, probably because I think he would do better against the better forwards of the comp. Though Reid is less experienced in the back half so probably has more scope for improvement.

Brown = Presti

Reid = ??? I can't think of anyone to compare him with. If he eventually becomes what he has given glimpses of, he will be something to behold.
A 1.95, 100 kg CHB with speed, athletisism and and great field kicking.

He's also only played 3 AFL games as a dedicated defender. He has all the tools you'd hope to see as a player he just needs the experience to back it up. I'm expecting those stupid mistakes to become less with more experience.

I think they are 2 different types of players

Brown is the more defensive and relies on spoiling and protecting as a larger part of his game.

Reid is a very confident mark has great speed and those long kicks out of defence make Daniel Rich's kicks look like little league stuff. Cannot wait to see a few of those kicks resulting in goals from a run through the centre

Of the two I am now leaning towards Reid, simply because of the quantum leap he has taken and he is still improving every game..

We are very lucky to have these 2 players.

Love em both

A more physical Dustin Fletcher would be nice.

Why is it that N Brown is the "dour" "one dimensional" "shut down" type defender?

If I remember correctly, when drafted, both Reid AND Brown had very athletic stats. Could it be we are asking too little of Brown?

I didn't realise they'd be playing on each other!

In terms of development, Reid ,and Dawes for that matter, are miles in front of Brown. Particularly as both have not played anywhere near the same number of games as Brown.

Brown shows little more than the ability to be a totally negative defender at this stage. In fact his average stats per game would be amongst the lowest ever recorded. He makes Presti look like a ball magnet ! That's not a major problem if you are reducing a quality opponent to simlar low stats. I would however like him to show a little in his game than he is showing at present.

Reid on the other hand has worked on his weaknesses ( kicking and going to ground too often) and has emerged as an exciting talent who will be able to play defence and forward with similar results.

I would certainly like to see Brown play as many games this year as possible but if Presti is fit, he is the natural exclusion IMO.
