you think? how many people have gone into space compared to being slaughtered by the ability of a few to fly?

yay we split the atom...and killed a few hundred thousand people to prove it :thumbsu:

Cultivating crops is one for science that trumps anything.

Thats before you get to domesticating animals.

Constructing shelter,

Clothing

Christians may not have caused the Roman Empire to fall but they were responsible for the dark ages.

Hahaha. You probably also think Christians believed the Earth was flat. That's a furphy, just like the notion that Christianity extinguished science and suppressed rational thought. These are modern misconceptions that have little basis in historical fact.

I suppose the Church has a lot to answer for, but it is unfair to accuse them of stuff they didn't do.

On the other hand, they took Copernicus's heliocentric theory better than one might have expected. And Gerbert of Aurillac, who later became Pope Sylvester II, was one of the finest mathematical minds Europe has produced. And many of the monasteries of Europe were major centers of learning.

I do not dispute that the Church was guilty of some thoroughly objectionable behaviour, but painting them as just a big damp cloth that did nothing but stifle scientific thinking for centuries is unfair and inaccurate.

You're going about it the wrong way. I can assure you. I have worked harder than you and I have the real truth. Just because you think you have experienced something, doesn't mean you have.

Your path will only drive you into a tighter tangle within your own ego.

You lie.

Your mind is a mess.

You are not even in the same Cosmos as the truth.

You lie.

Your mind is a mess.

You are not even in the same Cosmos as the truth.

My mind is clear, I am truly happy.

I know the truth and live correctly.

What you know is merely a distraction, a diversion dragging you back into falsehood.

Perhaps stifled any scientific thinking contradictory to church 'fact' is more accurate.

This isn't entirely true. Christianity practically brought us the renaissance, and much of the philosophy in the world (aquinas, augustine). Even now you can look at the Pontifical Academy of Science which has more Nobel prize winners than any other institution in the world. The Jesuits 'the brain cells of the church' were also responsible for huge scientific advancement especially in the areas of astrology, monks as well were keen scientists notably in the fields of biology.

Just for a few posters before the Dark Ages wasn't caused by Christians nor was scientific development in that time restricted by Christians. In fact year 8 history will reveal to you that at the fall of the Roman Empire, barbarians and other tribes like Atila the Hun destroyed much of Europe's science and learning. The Dark Ages was not caused by Christians, in fact the reason we got out of the Dark Ages is thanks to Christians.

Also the idea of a Dark Ages is pretty simple minded considering that at the time Europe may have fallen, but Asia and other 'developed' places hadn't. Western Civilization is the not the centre of the world RUNVS and it is ignroant to assume so.

this is true, these could be well balanced with the negatives that these things caused (however it goes beyond the scope of my original argument) through the "flow on effect"

You are ignorant of your ignorance. Enjoy it until otherwise.

Right back at ya,

The thing is, I'm only claiming these 'truths' in jest. You actually believe it.

I know I don't know, you think you know.

That would put you in the position of being ignorant of ignorance no?

Perhaps when you mature you'll see the world correctly...

It was plainly obvious you have been playing the fool. You are not the first person on these boards to do this. It is obvious in your posts you have no idea about Spiritual Enlightenment and probably your signature of Penn Jillette may have also slightly aroused suspicion.

From you posts, I know for a fact that you don't know. It is a truth. I know it for myself. It would be plainly obvious you have no idea. That is why you use sarcasm and parody. In lieu of the truth, these are the only tools you blunt mind has.

From your posts I know for a fact that you are a small scared individual who is so afraid of the world you have retreated into a world of fantasy. That is truth.

Advanced technology is not necessary for weapons. Men have been killing each other since early man picked up a stone or stick. Technology has allowed man to live to 80 instead of 40.

You keep saying that but it's not really true.
much of the philosophy in the world (aquinas, augustine).
Greece brought us western philosophy. Christian philosophers don't exist without the Greek legacy.

Christians restricted a lot of advancement in learning - eg: Galileo.

I'll let all those people who died from technology related sources.

Your also saying that it is a positive to live until your 80 instead of 40.
