TAS relocation rumours?

Sounds like business is booming.

Why do you receive the most from the SDF?

Why are you $12M in debt?

Why are you whoring games out to Darwin, Canberra and shortly Tasmania and Geelong?

Why is this only the first year you have outsold North in memberships?

Surely if the Bulldogs were in a good financial state they wouldn't need to relocate games all around the country or rely on the AFL to kick in more than any other club.

We recieve more cos the afl deems us more worthy.
We have debt because any club who has struggled financially in recent years has debt.
We sell games because, like many other clubs its good business to avoid pathetic crowds like norths this year. Interestingly, north melbourne are looking at ballarat.
You have had sympathy memberships, hence your membership jumped by 10,000 in one year but is now the lowest in melbourne, only 28,000 including non game day.
We are not in a good financial state, however, revenue figures as well as future revenue potential is higher than that of north melbournes. Whats that say about north melbournes position?

That is utter crap.

Your average home crowd is 17923. Ours is 19590.

Your average away crowd is 19802. Ours is 21664.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Those figures are from 1921 (It took us almost 20 years to win our first 50 games), I suggest you look at the North home game attendances in Melbourne over the past 15 years.

Our Melbourne attendances have always been higher than the Dogs.

Reminds me of the two guys running away from abear in the woods

One says "I dont think we can out-run a bear"

The other "I dont need to out-run the bear, I just need to out-run you"

If you think one club is first for the chop. and yours is second, dont wish for the chop - It just makes you first in the line

Gotta love Dogs fans beating off over the possibility of a team being relocated. All class. :footy:

I didnt attack north until a north fan attacked the dogs. And the only dogs fan to post before me did suggest it may be north, but only saying that caro hinted at north.
So it was a north fan who started the issue, classy from him :)

A third perth team would mean 6 derbys per year not 2 - would help to underwrite a much larger stadium.

So tassie and 3rd WA team to come in. 22 rounds is play each team once (19 games) plus 3 "rivalry" rounds.

I am sure this will happen. Though, I don't actually think a third team will do well here. Most people already have their teams. Most people who didn't like West Coast because of the way they were set up, supported Freo.

The West Perth Falcons, which do not play out of Perth, but Joondalup 30min North, are already lining themselves up to be that team. If they went in with another WAFL side, that would probably be the best chance of success.

actually i think the hawks experiment has shown just how much they will adopt a club which moves there. theres no doubt that the hawks support there has exploded since they have been there.

And yet when Carlton played the Hawks there in a NAB game ..the Blues supporters outnumbered the Hawks supporters 2 - 1 .

Tasmanians have strong ties to existing clubs and won't change to support any relocated team here.

That was pretty obvious but the Tassie fans have become a bit "Picky" which games they go to - That itself would need to be figured in for a new or relocated side

From 2012, 24 round season, North to spilt to home games 4-4-4. Hawthorn to move all games back to Melbourne

4 at Bellerive
4 at York Park
4 in Melbourne plus a minimum 5 away games

Still based in Melbourne, would be a waste to move out of $25 million facility after just three. They still have 9 games a year in Melbourne which would be sufficent for the vast majority of their supporters.

Awesome!!!!!!!! :thumbsu:

And it's a 15 million facility, which would mean, really, that we could give up another game to Tassie.

Not much in these "relocation rumours", really - just Demetriou saying that Tassie will get a side in the near future, and it is a possibility that team could be a relocated one.

Hawthorn will get first crack, if they knock it back it will be out of, Norf, Melbourne, Dogs and Port. Even the Saints could be a chance if they have a few bad years.

Lets put it this way, I would not want to be relying on AFL handouts to make ends meet in 3 to 5 years time. The AFL will be pumping huge dollars into GC and GWS and it is not a bottomless pit so they will look to cut costs elsewhere. Easiest way is to get rid of the support packages to the pauper clubs.

Highly likely that clubs will get more TV money but the players will be putting their hands up for significant pay rises on the back of Hunt and Folau. And this will drain away and additional revenue.

You will know who the AFL is targetting by the draw they are given.

Some of you guys having pot shots are eachother's clubs are being very silly/emo.

North would be at risk, had we had the old do-nothing administration.

Last year we signed an agreement with the city of Ballarat that we would work towards playing some games in Ballarat but we need to work together to get Eureka stadium up to AFL standard.

The government is looking to get the stadium up from 8k to 15k in the short-term, it is definitely a long-term development but in just a few short years we have developed some really good bonds with Ballarat and in the future it will be pretty much like how Gold Coast is compared to Brisbane so long-term I see us playing a lot of smaller drawing games there like Geelong does at Skilled and we just play the bigger drawing games at MCG/TD.

I don't know what other clubs are doing, don't care really as long as they go down a path that is of their own choosing rather than by the barrel of an AFL gun.

I know brayshaw likes to play the nice guy but he really needs to whore himself - like eddie did - on his various footy shows to get norths profile up

Pess, you really are a hypocrite.

In another thread , you said Jeff Kennett should shut up.

JK has lifted Hawthorns profile by (as you would say) whoreing himself out. You bag him for this (cause you cant tell the difference between football and politics)

Yet , you seem to think it was fine for Eddie to do it and it would be fine for Brayshaw to do it.

I wonder if thats because you aren't/weren't a Liberal voter in Victorian state elections. You may not have liked him as Premier but he has done very well as HFC President

I mentioned to you in the other thread that 'there is a difference between being Premier of the state and being the architech of a stadium'
I'll let you in on another secret (dont tell anyone though) there is a difference between football and politics.

Move on from your hatred of Jeff

It wont be us for two major reasons. One, we had to commit to Melbourne long-term to get the development funding, it is not an option for us and we wont even be looking to play games there for cash.

Secondly, we are committed to developing football in regional Victoria, specifically Ballarat. That has approval from the AFL, the Victorian government and the federal government.

I wouldn't be against us playing games in Tasmania or co-locating if we had no other long-term options and long-term prospects are bleak but we are at a low ebb and should break even this year, while we are seeing a lot of money flow out from playing all our home games at TD, which is still being repaid largely by the clubs that play there.

Once that is repaid in 15 years time it should be a good place to play footy as we don't have that massive capital repayment overhead. Combine that with our growing bonds with Ballarat and I think our future is looking pretty bright and the AFL mentioned us when speaking about Port and how they could turn things around so the AFL are happy with the direction we are heading.

I really dont think the AFL would let this happen again.

Port's lack of support would be due to people who already supported another SANFL side not wanting to support Port.

Do you think anyone who supports Subiaco,Swan Districs or any other club except West Perth is going to jump on board?

The AFL would have learnt their lesson there

If there is a 3rd West Aussie team , it would be started from scratch (i dont think it will happen in the near future)

Wow, alot of defensiveness and paranoia from the two Melbourne clubs most under threat (North & Doggies)...

Tassie deserves a team, and I'd love to see one there...and to maximise support and sponsorship I'd be playing home games in Hobart AND Launceston...

Frankly I can't see North surviving for too much longer...they had their chance to go to QLD and refused...which signed their own death warrant.

The most realistic thing would be that AFL asks Hawthorn if they want to move there. They could then knock back, come back to AFL with a plan or accept AFL's terms. The only thing that makes Hawthorn the most likely is because they play there, they seem to enjoy playing there (unlike Saints did) and they have grown a supporter base down. (I believe they have a membership for their Tassie games.) They could realistically go to the AFL and say ok we will move but we must have X amount of away games back in Melb and maybe one or two home games there as well. If Hawthorn were to say no then the AFL would look at a few other teams.

It would look at Doggies (if they were still in debt) and North (if the Ballart thing did not take off) Whilst Richmond and Essendon are big 4 clubs they have a lot of issues and depending on how they are fearing with debt, members, training grounds and actual wins, etc they may look at them. (However they could go let's move Doggies sth and Essendon west as we have to give more to Doggies and Essendon need the ground) If the AFL choose a team who has low memberships and debt well they will probably go in hard and say to that team "well if you don't take the opp then we give you this much less money or no money at all and we will watch you fold whilst we build about another team"
