Discussion Remaining Fixture

So we have a bye to work with but they still give us a four day break against the Eagles?!! That's poor.
We can't really complain with our fixture. We have bigger breaks before games against Essendon, Hawks and GWS than they do. Eagles have 4, 5, 4 day breaks in the lead in to our game against them. We have six days before the Demons match (one less day than they have) and seven days before the Lions match (one less again).

On the whole, it's a very good run.

Yeah if I'm looking at it correctly the Eagles have 4-5-5-4 day breaks, that's intense! Still, it means jack if we don't manage our own squad properly. I don't want to see 17 fatigued players getting smashed again, unless they play for the Eagles!!

We've been pretty well looked after with this I reckon. Even managed a couple of games on FTA too.

Playing on the Thursday in Round 17, I don't really want the pre-finals bye now. The boys have been playing back to back for 3 months, now potentially go 3 full weeks with only the GWS game in the middle, it might just take the edge off.

Ideally we'd go Thursday in Round 17, Friday in Round 18, then (hopefully Qualifying) final Saturday.

Looking at the rd18 match-ups, our game is a good chance at being the Thursday or Friday night.

One of the few match ups with both teams in finals contention.

Not really as WCE have the 4 days too, and actually a 5 hours less recovery that us as out game is at 1.05PM and their is at 6.10PM

With an early finish that may help with rehab for us.

Plus we have the BYE, whereas WCE have to also play on
Tuesday, September 1
Hawthorn v Adelaide, Adelaide Oval, 5.40pm AEST, 5.10pm ACST

So WCE will have played 5 days, and then 4 days before us. Saints should be in better shape.

Then with GWS, whenever we play them we will have an extra 2 days of rest as an advanatge.

Overall I think the remaining fixture is very good for us. We are no disadvantaged against any team so far, and should be in excellent shape to knock off the Hawks and hopefully lock in our finals berth. The Hawks have a very heavy gameload leading up to our game.

I think that the Bye game is excellently placed to freshen up our list.

It will go most likely for a peak viewing timseslot. So Thurs, Fri or Say nights one would think.

Where all teams are on the ladder will impact though, and a number of teams including us might need a win to lock in playing finals.
Whenever it is we will have 2 extra days rest over GWS though.

Compared to the last month, it is much better in terms of turnarounds.
Last month:
Port 5 days
Swans 7 days
Suns 5 days
Cats 4 days

Next period:
Bombers 6 days
Brisbane 7 days
Melbourne 6 days
Hawthorn 8 days
Eagles 4 days
GWS 7/8/9 days

And it is not just the days in between, but that the Saints also have more rest than most of our opponents.

Planning finals already , thats a dangerous game being a sainter

Bugger it, lets just back ourselves & enjoy it when it blows up in our faces.

Miss the finals? Meh, we’ve had our guts dragged out of us & set in fire in front of our very eyes on the last Saturday in September (and the 1st Saturday in October too).

Saints top 6. Lock that bastard in.

Yeah, I was wrong, was shaping for next bit that a fair chunk of who we had to play was looking at also vsing Eagles and AFL being a spineless entity requiring cash donations would acquiesce to "I wanna stay over here".

Arguably the best fixture we could probably have gotten given locale, pending of course if the GWS game is in SA for the lols, given that it's QLD and SA for games. That'd kinda suck.

Ok everybody. Deep breath in deep breath out deep breath in deep breath out.
After the loss to Geelong I was really flat I lost a bit of hope for season 2020.
After some time to deal with the disappointment of the heavy loss to the cats I look at the ladder and I see that a win tomorrow puts us equal 3rd WITH the cats and only 1 win from the top 2.
I don’t expect to make the top 4 but I do have a big expectation on making the 8.
A win tomorrow and we are well on our way.
Deep breath in Deep breath out.

I keep telling myself that Essendon on 2 days less rest, no Zaharakis, no Smith, no Stringer, no Hooker should be beatable but I just can't put too much belief in this team yet.

I don't have that Lyon led team of Riewoldt/Hayes/Dal/Joey/Milney confidence where I'd go to a game not thinking we had a chance but expecting the win.

Agree, still can't get over the Freo lost despite all the good work we have done since. I am damaged goods. Plus we had confidence back then precisely because we had so many elite players as you write. Anyway, cmon saints crush them.

You never did answer how we should have managed our squad differently. Any other changes to the Gold Coast team most likely means a loss and anything we did against Geelong was still going to be a loss. And we always knew we had 2 days on Essendon in this game. I think we have managed it perfectly.

Melbourne currently in the 8.

Giants out of the 8.

We may see us fighting off with the Giants for a top 8 spot in the last game of the year...

At least brother we have it in our own hands.

Wanted to ask you a question. Cutler, you and I were big on him last year, I still like the look of him and thought he played well today.

What did you think?

Yeah mate, I think he's a good footballer. Would fit in well in a good side.

Handy pick up for very little, but once we got Hill and Butler there was probably little need for him.

Surprised Melbourne didn't go after him.

Great to get the 4 points. 8 wins banked. 10 Has been mooted as the number to make the finals - that would probably rely on %.
Melbourne shaping as a defining game - for us and them.
Lions, Demons, Hawks, Eagles and Giants remain.
Win 3 and we are in.

Does anyone know if there is a bye between Rd.18 and the first week of finals?

9+ percentage might be enough. 10 almost definitely will get you in.
