You might as well give up then
that or demand we do something about the abysmal state of our kpps and talls.

We have just two high quality talls the rest are average at best. This has been the case for god knows how many yrs and the club continues to do little about it because they cant see a problem.

Everyone is talking up Chol and Moore and make no mistake i like most of the attributes they have but ffs they were rookie picks for a reason and a simple home truth is so few junior rookie picks ever make it. You can not seriously be planning ypour long term future around these type of picks they should be looked upon as a bonus if they make it.

It is scary to look at our tall stocks and the continued negligence that the club perpetuates in this area.

We should have
4 KPD's - 2 mature, 1 development 1 junior.
2 third tall defenders. 1 mature, 1 development/junior.
4 KPF's - see KPD's
2 Third tall FWD's - See third tall defenders.
4 Ruckmen - 2 front line , 2 ruck fwds.
1 or 2 utilities - 1 mature 1 development/junior.

We have no succession plan, we seriously lack numbers and we seriously lack quality and players at a decent afl standard.

What we do have is

KPD's - Rance quality mature. Astbury battler mature.

Third tall DEF - Grimes mature, plays mainly small have to ask does he fit the job description. If he plays on the smalls where is the third tall.

KPF - Riewoldt quality mature. Griffiths battler mature, Elton battler development,

Third tall FWD. - Moore Junior, rookie pick how many rookies become good players

Ruckmen - Hampson very limited player Veteran. Maric best is way beyond him should not be on the list veteran. Soldo rookie long shot Junior. Nankervis to date below average player development.

Utility - Chol rookie see Moore junior. Could have placed him in the rucks but atm he projects more as a fwd has attributes to make a good second string ruckman though.

Finally as stated regularly now, i think we went totally in the wrong direction to where the list was dictating i think it a disgrace that we have only one pick in the top 50 in this coming draft.

Agree - Disappointing that it has not been improved to date.

It will certainly need a game plan that caters for the deficiency and does not rely on bombing to a packed forward line, and players able to get back and help out the defense.

This is evidenced by the fact that we have a bloke called Elton who is saddling up for year number six without any hits or runs on the board, but we're keeping him as we have no one else.
Yeah the ever-optimists will state he showed glimpses in his games last season. He showed three parts of f*** all. And 'glimpses' are not enough from a player who has been in the system six years.

Well argued. But I wonder if we throw up the Doggies full list of talls, how well they would stack up.

Yes, really!
On the plus side, Hampson in his 10th season went from awful to mediocre .. clap, clap.
The game has moved on from blokes who rack up the hit outs and offer absolutely nothing outside that one facet of the game.
Nankervis will bypass him quickly.

Considering there are virtually no good talls in this draft explain how having more then 1 pick inside the top 50 would even solve that anyway? Oh wait that doesn't fit your narrative whoops.

Stringer, Roughhead, Boyd, Morris, Bob Murphy, Marcus Adams, Campbell, Redpath, Crameri to come back .. fair way ahead of ours!

Virtually not even half of those are talls there half fowards and half backs

Firstly no team have more than 2 guns talls. Every player has to play their part. Look at all the premiership teams and rarely they had more than one gun forward. We just need enough tall talent to give us presence and depth. Griffiths and Vickery had similar output and both 2m tall, so having them in the same forward line in a game would mean only one would have a solid game because they were kicked to more often on the day. We have an opportunity this week to get the right tall player to fill the area we lack in. He can play both ends of the ground. Chol and Moore should be on the rookie list next year and we should aim to choose one of them to continue in 2018 unless they both really impress which would be a bit unlikely. I like what Astbury and Grimes can give us and along with Rance we have a solid backline. If we grab Richards, which we must do, then he will provide us with good depth in defence. But I'd use him in a 3 tall forward set up. I think Elton can still be a handy defender when we have an injury also. So excluding rookies I see our talls like this.

Forward-Reiwoldt, Griffiths, Richards, Nankervis(depth)
Defence-Rance, Astbury, Grimes, Elton(depth)
Ruck-Hampson, Nankervis, Griffiths. Any 2 of these on game day

So we can play 3 talls at either end. Richard is 195cm and mobile so we wont be too tall and predictable up forward. He's the last piece of the puzzle we need in this trade/draft period. If we don't get him then the players we just picked up won't benefit us as much as we'd still have a hole up forward

Virtually not even half of those are talls there half fowards and half backs
The likes of Morris, Stringer and Bob Murphy have and do play key position. Stringer is one centimetre shorter than Jack Riewoldt, Crameri, who plays FF, three centimeters shorter.
The Dogs use their talent to advantage.

I haven't completely given up on Elton but that's purely based on him being a very slow developer. Hope they persevere with him as a forward next year because as a back he is absolutely no chance of making it, simply doesn't have the smarts.

In all honesty though after 6 years you'd have to say it's a long shot that he'll make it. The re-signing of him for 2 years at the end of 2015 was mystifying, can only think that they must have rated him ahead of any other mature aged KPP's around the country not playing AFL.

We re-sign everyone for two years whether worthy or not. Conca, Hampson, Astbury, the bootstudder!

We cant get Richards, If we do then Lemon doesnt get a chance and it will all be Hardwicks fault for playing Richards ahead of Ben Lemon

No wonder the poor kid wants a trade, There is always other people getting in his way

Ben Lemon say's we dont need Richards as he is now Faster than Dildo and a better Mark than Jack and will be his break out year

Talls could have been improved indeed, but few clubs have multiple quality talls anyway..

You can only draft what's there, and there are only a handful in each draft and you gotta fight the other 17 clubs to get them, so it takes a while (and/or some luck) to get a good group around similar ages.

We just need to get a little better at picking competitive ones, but miles better at drafting good rucks.

In my 29 years, Ottens is the only good and competitive ruck we ever drafted as a kid, and he bloody left!

Really i thought after all this time you at least would have learnt a few things. Seems not.

Richards is a spud. Had a good contract on offer at the swans knocked it back.
He though he would have lots of suitors during trade week. Noone offered him squat
He then crawls back to the Swans please please can i sign That original contract offer
Swans say you had your chance **** off. We don't need or want a player like him.
C Moore can and will be a better player than richards as will Chol

Don't see the issue with recruiting Richards for at least a couple years. Behind Griffiths we only have developing talls, can play a 3rd tall role if needed

Ok I swapped C Ellis with Costagna. Bring it on. Btw Griffiths should get to 110kg and be a power forward
