lets face it the crows got spanked in the first quarter

the dropping of perrie rather than play him at chf is a joke
i thought bode was one of our better contributors last week yet he got dropped as well

the match ups, ayres must have been reading one of the threads on who will man up on pikey . he plays a good game last week and all of a sudden he is the must stop at all cost player. stenglein tagging him was a complete waste surely basset could have done this or he shouldn't be in the side. the brisbane midfield is running riot and we have basset trying to tag lappin, i almost fell over laughing. ricciuto with gastro on voss before voss went forward din't work either, surely stinger in the midfield had to be a better option

at least we didn't destroy hentschal's confidence any more by playing him in the forward line, he performed very well. i thought schuey was promising as well

apart from the one big carey mark, he was trying to wrestle with mal michael following the beautiful forward line delivery as usual :) but were we the crumbers

Yes he is :(

Both screw up the chemistry of the team. Webber does it on court where he is a self centered prick who doesn't understand the concept of playing team basketball where as Ayres is a master of dumb moves.

I am still laughing at the Bassett Vs Voss match up. Does this bloke seriously have any understanding of his players limitations??????

I repeat what I said last week. AFC would be stupid to sack a coach this early in the season. Ayres is on the last year of his contract & his performances will dictate whether he will be there in 2005. Sacking coaches this early just create further instability.
Agree with this.

That said, I can't think of anything that deosn't involve sacking Ayres now which would have a chance of redeeming the season.

The Crows are in deep doodoo.

I have to agree with Wayne's World that we are in deep trouble. As he said its not the youngsters that are letting us down because they are the ones performing. Its the big guns that are pathetic to say the least. Goody is haveing a good year but apart from him others are struggling big time.

Add to this a sequence of bad match ups and we are done. The only sensible match up for Basset yesterday was Bradshaw. There was no one else in that lions side that Bassett could have picked up. Hentschel did a very good job on Bradshaw.

Mr ship, Bassett on Pike would have been a disaster. Have you ever seen Bassett's turning circle?????? Pike would have run rings around him. Stenglein did a fantastic job on Pike, but playing him there we were left a player short for Voss.

Playing Stinger on Pike allowed Reilly to play onball more and I thought his game on Aker was good. He will certainly learn from that.

Ayres said that the players that were dropped were not dropped only on their game last week but also the 5 pre-season games and last 3 games of 2003. Then why did he keep Bassett?????? For the last month Bassett has been ordinary. He got beaten by Dale Ellis at kadina, he played crap against Roos and was even worse last week.

Taking Bassett and Roo into the game left us 2 players short. I would have much rather brought in 2 players who will actually get some game time.

Some serious questions need to be asked and some serious soul searching has to take place. If we go 0-4 then we might as well play every youngster on our list to see if they are up to it.

On a positive note ffrom SANFL. Tim Hazell was Norwood's best player on friday. I listened to the radio broadcast of this game and his name got called out a lot. Apparently his disposal was 1st rate. He ended up with 32 possesions, 11 marks and a goal in a domiating performance. Luke Jericho made Westies best players in a win against South. He played up forward and kicked 3 goals 2 behinds. He had 14 possesions and 4 marks. This kid could break into the side quicker than expected.

Bock played for South reserves and kicked 4 goals. Anyone know whats happening wit Torney?????? He didn't play for south against Westies and it would appear that he didn't play in reserves either.

RE: Torney

He's not injured? I ask this because he was interviewed at half time during the Crows game. I thought if he was fit he would be playing for Souths.

Maybe they didnt play him in case Roo dropped out? Thats the only reason I can think of from keeping him out of the SANFL.

I think he is injured. Has he been named as an emergency for the game against Lions??????

If he wasn't then I doubt AFC would bring him in for anyone as it would mean a fine of $15,000.

You can only bring in a player from your emergencies. If you bring anyone else in it will cost the club $15K.

Yesterdays emergencies were Hudson, Bode and Shirley.

So yeah, Torney must be injured.
This bloke hasn't missed a game in the last 4 seasons, all of a sudden its setback after setback. Bulged discs, torn calf (2 times), ankles. What is the go now???????:(

We need Torney back. We need his guts and determination now more than ever again.

Agree 100%. Game number 215 for Pike and I reckon it would have to be close to the first time that he took the oppositions number one tagger. What an over reaction by our match committee to one game.

Stenglein must not be 100% fit. To waste him like we did on Saturday is a joke.

You guys cannot be serious. Have you ever watched Pike play lately?????? Have seen him against Sydney the previous week??????

To suggest that Bassett would have been a good match up for Pike would qualify for "Best of worst Gary Ayres match ups of all time" video.

Have you guys ever seen Bassetts turning circle?????? Have you even wondered why is he stuck at FB rather than further up the ground?????? Pike is a tall midfielder who gets out of congested situations extremely well and is very strong in the air. Bassett could have gone with Pike in the air but Pike would have raped him at ground level and in congested situations. Thats why we needed someone on Pike thats good in the air and that could go with him on ground level.

Personally, I would have played someone like Smart on Pike and Stenglein on Voss. Stenglein on Pike was a good match up but it left us with a bit of a hole because we had no one to run with Voss.

Can understand the match committee starting with Stinger on Pike. However, if Voss is running hot & is the obvious matchwinner, why not switch Stinger to Voss during the game ... though give them their dues, they did switch Nigel at the end of the 1st quarter to relieve the Hound. Should chnage the matchups to plug the biggest problem, even if it creates other minor ones. Need to be flexible!

Stiffy, my point was that putting Stenglein on Pike was a huge waste of our best tagger when Brisbane have an abundance of quality midfielders. Whether it was Bassett or someone else doesn't matter, but a backman had to pick him up.

Do you honestly think Leigh Matthews was concerned when he saw Stenglein on Pike? My guess is that he couldn't believe his luck. Stenglein did a great job but I'm sure someone else could have done the same job to free up Stenglein to take a more damaging player.

With Lynch and Brown not playing, Brisbane had used Pike as a forward focul point.
To take him out of the game, would have deprived the Brisbane forwrd line of some sting.
Not a bad strategy.
Unfortunately, up steps Voss. Wasn't unhappy with either Smart or Bassett matchups, the problem was the delivery, as their midfield had so much time to deliver, or were streaming effortlessly into their forward line.
The problem was and is, our midfield.

I think Garry should step down for the spindoctor. Obviously he is the best coach never to have coached. Pretty easy job from your armchair. Your only as good as your players play and it looks as though they are trying to get rid of another coach. Remember Malcolm Blight?
